So, my MIL and FIL are very generous and this is their first grandchild so we've been getting all kinds of stuff from them (MIL is also a shopaholic). Granted, some of the stuff is stuff we did not ask for or necessarily want, but we just smile and say thank you. She never gives us the receipt so we can't always return or exchange without involving her.
Yesterday DH tells me that MIL bought us an Angelcare Monitor for my shower. *sigh*
I never wanted one. I didn't want 15 monitors hooked up so that I never fall asleep waiting for it to go off. I am grateful and will take it and smile, but.. how about getting our carseat, or pack n' play ... or something still sitting on our registry?
So since we'll apparently have one.. anyone have one? Plusses, minuses, useful? A waste?
Re: Apparently we are getting an Angelcare... 411?
We're getting one. And everyone I know who didn't wishes they did. Both of my sisters used this and said it provided them a lot of relief.
If you don't want it, you can probably see if BRU will take it back for store credit.
LOL... I was sitting here thinking.. who counts to that high? Until I realized that it was supposed to be 11 months.
I had never heard of the Angelcare Monitor before this post. I guess I am a bad mom to be! LOL!
It only makes me wonder how on earth we are still alive because we grew up in a time without all of this extraneous stuff! LOL! I only registered for a basic monitor...again, I guess I am a bad mommy!

First I just wanted to say- you are VERY lucky to have such great in laws! My friends get annoyed too, and I feel like I have to remind them how lucky they are. My parents are passed and my DH's parents are not healthy. So just make sure you appreciate everything they do for you even when they get annoying
With THAT said, I registered for this after doing a lot of research on reviews for monitors. I found this one was the best and I will be able to relax at night w/o worrying about if she is breathing or not. That is if you got the one with the sleeping pad?
LOL. Sorry. I fixed it.
But, I might just be cranky today.
I'm sorry, because I'm not trying to be rude, but I hate when people say things like this. Of course a baby can survive without new technology out there. But that doesn't mean that new baby care items aren't created or improved to improve the chances that baby will be safe.
No one is implying that a basic monitor makes you a bad mom. She asked for opinions on the item. Personally, I know it will provide me peace of mind than an alarm will sound if my baby stops breathing. I won't feel the need to pop in repeatedly to make sure she's still breathing.
Oh good, I'm glad I'm not just cranky.
My thoughts exactly- I didn't have the energy to type all of that. lol
Oh don't worry- we do appreciate it, believe me.
We are very very lucky to have such help. And we have gotten some much needed thigns from them as well and they get so excited!
Thanks everyone for the feedback! I honestly didn't know much about it and if it was helpful or not... keep it coming!
A lot of babies from our generation ARENT alive.
My sincerest apologies to everyone I got upset. I didn't know I was capable of making so many people angry in just a few sentences!
I wouldnt say you made anyone angry. I would say your post was just silly and not very well thought out.
We have the AngelCare monitor, and we love it! If you hadn't heard of it before, I can understand why you wouldn't be very excited about receiving it. However, it is absolutely wonderful. DH did a lot of research about monitors and this one is one of the highest rated. I'm not sure what all yours comes with, but ours comes with 2 portable monitors that each display the temperature in the baby's room and the sensor pad (if it doesn't detect any movement, like breathing, after 20 seconds, a very loud alarm goes off).
This set is expensive and well worth it! This is one "unwanted" gift that I would be extremely grateful for!
We got this monitor after a friend suggested it. We are putting LO in his crib from the beginning, so I wanted something to give me extra peace of mind. I read a recommendation to put a piece of plywood under the mattress to give it that needed stability. Just run by Home Depot or Lowe's and grab one that's close to the size you need.
Just another perspective - I never wished I had one. We just had an audio monitor and were fine.
DD did sleep in our room for the first three months.
