She and her FI have put so much time and effort into planning the wedding. They wanted to do a casual get-together the day before at a city park in lieu of an actual rehearsal dinner.
The problem is that FI currently lives with a roommate (and roomie's GF) and their fridge and kitchen is disgusting. It was bad when I was there for the shower in August, so much so that I worried about putting the cake in the fridge because it smelled so bad (not to mention it was stuffed to the brim). I had to do dishes and clean one area of the kitchen just to do the limited menu for the shower. Apparently it's gotten worse. Her FI avoids going home and when I talked to them yesterday he joked that they contemplated making a YouTube video of the kitchen and the massive amount of flies in it.
My sister lives out of town, so her kitchen is out. I sent her an email and told her to just say the word and DH and I will spend $10 on cleaning supplies and knock it out in an hour and then fix all the food for them (this is the other problem, neither she nor her FI are used to cooking for large numbers of people, DH and I do it all the time). I really hope she takes me up on the offer and doesn't stick to her guns just because she doesn't want to put us out or wants to do everything herself.
I haven't heard back from her yet. :crosses fingers:

It was bad, MW. Food left on plates and in pots that had been sitting out for God knows how long. It was all I could do not to gag when I was there. The whole place smells like rotten cabbage. I imagine it must look like something off of hoarders by now.
He used to, but it would be back to the way it was less than a day later. And right now, he is working roughly 50-60 hours a week so he's rarely home.
Fukc cleaning. Throw all the *** in the trash and then clean the counter tops.
my thoughts exactly
That's pretty much my plan. Throw it all out, douse the place in Clorox Anywhere, run the dishwasher and wash anything else with the hottest soapiest water I can find.
I guess I was just thinking it would help them out and they could blame us after we're gone if the roommate threw a shiit fit (though it would be fun to be there for that).
Does she have any friends that she could ask to use their kitchen?
Yuck!!!

my currently-reading shelf:
Screw running the dish washer. Throw all plastic in the trash. It holds spores in the pores. (hehe the rhymed) If it is a pot or pan, you could put it in the dishwasher, but there is no way in hell I would clean the pans. Throw it all away dishes included. You don't need to be in the environment with mold. Make sure you wear gloves and a mask.
yeah, toss it all. How much could they really be using it if nothing is ever cleaned. Chances are they wont miss it.

I'm not sure they would notice. Her FI said they've taken over the basement (which has a back door onto their patio) and that he was going to have to go around the building to get to his grill because he couldn't get to the patio door.
At least the good news is that I think her FI is getting out of his portion of the lease after the wedding. I'm going to be sorely tempted to make an anonymous call to the apt manager once I know he is out of there.
