Toddler UTI?

I guess Reagan may not be a toddler anymore but..............

School just called to tell me that she has been complaining about it hurting when she goes to the bathroom today. She was fine this morning.  They could see from her sitting on the potty that she was a little red. I'm actually thinking that she may be wiping too hard and/or has scratched herself with her nails but they wanted to tell me in case it was a UTI.

Anyone have experience with this in a little one? I've never actually had one myself.

Re: Toddler UTI?

  • I suspected this a while back with Emmy because she complained that it hurt when she peed.  When the dr checked her, her private was a little irritated and told me that it may not be a UTI but just an irritated private that can hurt when peeing or wiping.  The reason behind it was too many bubble baths (she got one as a regular bath everyday).  So we stopped that and normally wash her and then after that, let her sit and soak in plain water.  Then we make sure she completely pat dries.  Since then, she rarely (once in a blue moon when she gets soap around there) complains about it.
