anyone ever deal with staph?

DD had a little pimple of her leg and dr thinks it is staph so we started antibiotics and some creme on the bump.  She told me to do warm compresses and see if I can squeeze anything out of it.  DD doesnt seem to be in pain only when I touch it.  And getting the medicine down is such a pain.  Any tips?

  • I haven't dealt with staph, but as far as the medicine goes can you ask your pharmacy to add flavoring to it?  HEB will do this.  Kate's a Tylonal junky so I'm not much help there.  How old is your LO?

  • DD is almost 3. We have having to force it down and she hates it.  Just the mention of medicine sends her running.
  • Can you bribe her?  Take your medicine and you'll get (ice cream, cookie, a favorite toy)?

Can you let her feed herself the medicine?  That's what worked last time my son was sick.  He hated it when I would give him the dose, but he happily took it when he was in control of it.  I filled up a syringe and let him hold it and squirt it in his mouth and he was fine with it then.

  • 3 year olds are just starting to realizing benefits. Abby has to take Claritin every night just to control her horrible mosquito bite allergy. Yes, every night for the 1-2 times a week she may encounter a mosquito. So we tell her that it's her mosquito medicine and she takes it because she knows how bad her bites itch and hurt when they get all swollen.

  • I had staph in college.....apparently an antibiotic-resistant kind.  It would pop up every few months, usually on my legs or feet, but once on my EYE.  Gross.  It hurt a lot, though.  I'm glad she doesn't seem to be in pain.  Warm compresses helped, as did getting the "gunk" out.  Be prepared if you do get it out - it's a lot, and like nothing you've probably seen before.  But they seemed to feel better and go away more quickly after that.  Not sure why it finally went away.....maybe just finally taking the right antibiotic.  My personal theory that it was moving out of Waco - my last infection was right before graduation.  Big Smile  Good luck!  I hope hers clears up and stays away.
