I am about 3 days away and my OB kind of freaked me out at my last appointment when she told me that when she sees me on my due date, she will probably want me to go to the hospital and try somethings to get this moving. I am wanting a natural birth, including as little intervention as possible. I REALLY don't want to have pit. This is not part of the plan! When I had first told her awhile ago, she was fine with this and said we wouldn't be looking at inducing until I was at 42 weeks. So, now I'm trying to figure out why the plan is changing, My blood pressure has been a little high, but I have tests done and everything came back okay. I'm still only 1 cm, but thinning. (those were the only numbers she has given me) I have been reading Ina May's guide to childbirth all week and so many of those women weren't really dilated before labor started, so it wouldn't make sense to me that this would be a reason to induce so soon. I guess I'm just wondering what all your thoughts are on this. Also any advice on ways to start labor. I know lots of them are OWT, but at this point I'm willing to try anything that's safe.. = )
Re: Ways to start labor?
You can refuse an induction. I'd insist on knowing the reasons for wanting to induce you and unless there is a good medical reason, go ahead and refuse. The average first time mom is 8 days "late."
Also, sex is good for inducing labor.
Yeah, I would just say no, period, to inducing on your due date - take your DH/partner (or someone else) for support to help you say no. And especially if she told you she'd wait until 42 weeks, definitely bring that up, too. It's pretty standard to have non-stress tests and u/s every few days past 41 weeks, so you can request that instead. Seriously, if she has no medical reason (and "low amniotic fluid" or "increased chance of meconium" are not valid reasons!), you have every right to say no.
Ugh, good luck. It's really hard to say no to providers...my DH is going with me to my MW appt this morning, bc by all estimates I'm over 40 weeks, planning a VBAC, and am bracing myself for the "you should have a repeat c-sectionby 41 weeks" convo (which we'll say no to). Ack!
DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
This, also walking, nipple stimulation, accupuncture and chiropractics. Here's a link for acupressure to induce labor which you can do your self https://health.indianetzone.com/acupressure/1/acupressure_inducing_labor.htm
.
Check out the evening primose oil thread. EPO is supposed to help your cervix soften and thin out, which may help your labour begin.

You have the right to say no. Don't let her pressure you into something you don't want. You'll look back and regret it later.
Try the usual recommendations -
Spicy food, sex, nipple stimulation, walking, eating pineapple (or so I read), EVO, caster oil, acupuncture/pressure points....
yeah, yeah, what she said!
