Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Going to the ER is such a waste of my time and money!

I started vomiting uncontrollably at about 6 last night and literally spent the night on the floor spooning with the toilet.  This morning at about 10, the excruciating pain began.  It felt like I was about to recreate the scene from Alien with a little monster jumping out of my abdomen.  The pain was the worst pain I've ever felt-I'd much rather go into labor again without pain meds than feel what I felt this morning.

So we headed to the ER.  They gave me Zofran for the puking and some awesome pain drugs that totally tripped me out.  Then they did some blood work and a Cat Scan.  Everything looked normal so they sent me home and gave me an Rx for Zofran and said if it gets worse, come back.  They said it wouldn't be the stomach flu because I haven't had any diarrhea.

I swear some of you girls have more smarts than medical professionals, Uncontrollable vomiting, low grade fever (around 100.3) and basically I just feel like I've been hit by a truck.  I say stomach flu. What do you think? Also, I know it's not my galbladder because that was removed in 2008.

NO! I definitely didn't drink the water! LMP was September 14 so it's not possible for me to be having symptoms of water drinking.

  • I vote for KU, a stomach flu, or you irritated your stomach lining.

All I have to say is DO NOT feel bad for going to the ER. Essentially, two months ago, my uncle had the exact same symptoms as you did, but waited to go to the ER until the second day. He ended up having a Staff infection and spent 7 weeks in ICU, having two open heart surgeries, dialysis, meds, and trach'd, physical therapy, and countless blood transfusions. He just came home last night. Good for you for going!

Holy frick! I'm glad your uncle is going alright! Now I'm not so annoyed about going to the ER and being told I'm healthy!

Definitely not KU! If anything I'd just now be ovulating so we're safe on that one!

  • Where is the pain at? Could it be appendix or early symptoms of appendicitis (sp?). Would that show up in the catscan if it was irritated? I have no idea but I hope you feel better!

  • I hope your are feeling better. Could it be your appendix? What have you eaten?
  • I'm not a doctor so I'm not going to pretend I have any idea what the issue may be. I hope you feel better soon!

Nope, not my appendix, the pain was too high up for that.  It was all along my upper abdomen, kind of following the line of my ribs.  And it was weird because it would come in waves where the pain would be a 15 for about ten minutes then it would dissipate and be about a 3 for ten minutes.

Pancreas. Possibly pancreatitis, but I'd assume that the cat scan would find that.

Hmm I have no idea! I totally know how you feel about the ER though. I once had an ER doc spend over 15 minutes telling me how I would be acting if I were really in pain. All of the things he said I would be doing I did not do during labor or when I had a tumor that pretty much up my whole stomach (which was diagnosed as depression).  So frustrating! If you don't get better keep fighting for answers, its your body and you know best!

  • Could it be a kidney stone?

I had a kidney stone 3 years ago and had vomiting and finally went to the ER when I couldn't move my legs because of the pain.  Depending on where the stone is at you can hurt wherever.  They usually show up on the CAT scans but sometimes if they are small enough they can be missed (mine was the first time they looked at my scans).

Sounds like you had a bad night, I hope tonight goes better!

I didnt have med free but I completely agree with this. I would go through all the pain i felt & my c/section all over again than have an attack with my gallbladder! its horrible.

  • I can't think of anything that wouldn't show up on a cat scan.

I know you can have residual problems with your gallbladder (liver, bile duct) so it could still be GB related.

I agree that my gallbladder pain was worse than anything I've ever felt in my life! I felt like I was being stabbed with a hot poker.

  • I don't know Jess, but I hope you feel better soon!
