winter coat question

Last year Bella had an amazing one piece "snow suit" from REI that was one piece and is 100% polyester. It looks and feels soft like fleece. We went there today ready to buy another one, or one similar and they don't have any that are the same material. I feel VERY strongly about her NOT having a thick, bulky winter coat since she can't wear it in the car seat. I don't want someone to accidentally put it on her and then put her in the car seat. I would rather just buy one like we had last year (or at least the same material) so that she can wear it for walks outside and then when we run errands.

Where did you buy your LO's winter coat? It's cold here now and we've been using a sweater on top of her clothes and a giant fleece blanket to wrap around her too... She needs a coat and a hat and gloves too :)

Re: winter coat question

  • Sounds like what you're looking for is something made of microfleece.  Maybe Google for that?

Old Navy has a performance fleece line and the coats are probably not warm enough for where you live (unless really layered), but the hats and mittens might work:

My mom got Libby a fuzzy coat that looks like a puppy (on the hood there's a face and ears and the back has a tail)...it's not too bulky, but most likely, in the car we'll just do a blanket OVER her carseat. I am okay with her having a bulkier jacket under stroller straps though.

ETA: Found a pic...isn't it cute?

  • I know exactly what you are talking about... We got one from Bloomingdales as a gift, brand was Absorba. It was too big, so we returned it and got a Ralph Lauren one instead that was waterproof on the outside and fleece on the inside. I then found a very soft cozy one-piece for $4 at my local consignment store and used that one more often, also brand Absorba.

I saw some cute one-pieces on Zulily a month or so ago but the best ones were gone by the time I looked. I'll see if I can figure out the brand... Have you looked at Gap, Children's Place, Lands End?

  • The very last one you pictured Lori, is the one we looked at. It's not warm enough. It's really just fleece. We drove all the way to REI and then they didn't have much. I think today I'm going to check out the consignment stores today since I'm off and then maybe go to the mall... I have to get her something soon! It was 40 degrees here this morning and frost was on the ground and windows! YIKES!

I did check Gap, Children's Place, Lands End, JCPenney's, Boston Store AND macy's!! I'm running out of options here... It still amazes me that so many places sell thick bulky coats for little kids when every car seat manufacturer says not to use those kinds of things. Maybe I'm one of the few moms that actually goes by that, I guess I'm just not willing to chance her safety at all!

Last year we had that really nice REI one that my aunt bought Bella and we took a giant fleece blanket with us too. I guess we could just buy a fleece sort of jacket and then take the fleece blanket with us too...
