Watery eye= clogged tear duct?

I just noticed that for the past couple of days, one of DD's eyes waters a lot more than usual. It is not red or pink, and it doesn't have any glob of colored/yellow mucus or anything, just clear tears that develop into thin crust overnight and sits on the eyelids. I have googled this, and I suspect it's either allergy (which they say doesn't happen to infants) or clogged tear duct. I have a call into the pedi, but want to hear your experience w/ this... is this a short-term thing that can be treated or will this turn into something that has to be fixed by something more later? TIA!

Re: Watery eye= clogged tear duct?

  • My DD has had a blocked duct for about 5 weeks now. Just went to the Dr. again Friday for her 2 month. They said they can be blocked for months and that they usually just clear themselves. She told us to massage her nose and also to just wipe with warm clean cloth.

MY DS is having the same issue.  A really watery left eye but no goop or anything.  Let us know what your pedi says...I was going to wait and call tomorrow.

Ok, thanks! I have been wiping w/ warm clean cloth as well, but I will try massaging her nose. I know someone whose son had something like this, and he ended up getting a surgery when he turned 4, this is why I was worried.

  • My daughter just had this the other day. Her right eye was watery and had some goop right near her tear duct. Her eye didn't seem to be bothering her and it wasn't red. It only started to show when she was sleeping- the goop. I kept wiping it away and eventually later that night it was completely gone.

She had her 1 month check up and the pedi said it could have been something in her eye or a blocked duct but if it happens again to call and let them know.

    I hope that helped.
