are you going by actual or adjusted age for shots? we did/do an alternate vaccination schedule with DD#1 and would like to do the same for DD#2 but not sure what to do. On one hand, they're a preemie so they are more susceptible to illness, but on the other hand, they are less developed neurologically, so the side effects may be worse.

Just wondering what everyone else thinks. My apologies in advance for opening a can of worms...

Mom to 2 beautiful girls, 3 yrs and 22 months old. My 2nd was born at 32 weeks due to Rhogam failure/severe complications from Rh disease and is our miracle. She has bilateral auditory neuropathy and a cochlear implant, activated 4/5/2012 at 19 months. Lilypie First Birthday tickers

    i followed our pediatricians advice. he has doctored preemies before, we made sure before selecting him. that said, we have been taking them according to his actual age.

    We go by our LOs adjusted ages and also do an alternative accnation schedule.

    This, with the one exception of her Hep B vaccine. She was too small to get the first one on time, so her Hep B shots were all bumped back one well visit. I believe she got her first at her 1 month well appt.

    I did them according to actual age and followed the recommended schedule. They did better much better than my singleton delivered past her due date.

    Actual so we did his first set of shots at 2 months old which was still before his due date. I just didn't want to risk his heath in any way since preemies are so much more susceptible to illness.

    This. My DS was born at 28 weeks and we have had no problems. The only thing was for his 4 month shots pedi was not happy with weight gain and made us bring him back in one week fro the vaccines

    We vaccinated according to actual age on the AAP schedule.  I was going to do an alternate schedule but I had a long conversation with our NICU doctor and he said that because she was a preemie it was even more important that she get vaccinated, where I was thinking because she was a preemie we should be more cautious.  We have had no problem and LO did not get sick her first year.

    The only change to the AAP schedule that we make is that I don't get all of the shots at the same time, I'll split it up into two visits or what not.  We are military so we go to an immunization office type deal to get them, so it's a little easier for us to split them since it's a walk in and not an office visit with pedi or the nurse.

    We do actual too, which is what my Ped recommended. I was nervous at first, considering when DS was 2 months old, he still shouldn't have been born yet. But I trust my Ped so we went with the regular schedule and haven't had any issues.
