It is the only teether my son has been interested in. I have tried several of the sassy ones that go in the fridge and the soothie paci/teether. He holds onto Sophie very well and chews on different parts of her depending on where in his mouth it hurts. It is the only thing that has been able to get to the very back of his gums. He loves her.
I just bought Sophie for my almost 4 month old and she loves it! I was skeptical at first (I mean seriously $17 for a pretty simple toy??) but like the PP said, the legs make it easy for the baby to really chew on it and grab onto.
I dont know- but of the 100 baby toys we have, this is the only one my son gets excited to see and the only one he pushes to his face. He loves licking and sucking on her ears.

DS likes her, but no more than his other teething toys. He'll go crazy nomming on her head from time to time, but his favorite teething toy is actually a bath toy -- this random Munchkin turtle that's on a stick. He chooses that over Sophie every time!

My mom got suckered into buying it at a boutique for $25, she keeps saying that it had better be his fav toy :-) I also grabbed one of the straps you can wrap around Sophie at Nordstrom so you can attach it to a stroller.

I was doubtful at first too, but bought it for DD a couple of weeks ago and she LOVES it! I told my mom that I spent $20 on a teether and she thought thought I was crazy, but after she saw DD with Sophie she did say it was money well spent.
My friends ds like his Sophie for about two weeks. I got the mushroom by the same company at my baby shower. My ds seems to like it. It doesn't have the skinny legs or neck to hold on to, but he doesn't have a problem holding it. When we go anywhere we have to bring that and one of his soft rattles. The mushroom is cute as well and also cheaper then Sophie. My ds is 3 months and most of the other teether's and toys that he has are heavier, so I think this one is easier for him to hang on too.
DS loves Sophie (in fact, we're on #2 because one accidentally got left at church in the nursery) and the mushrooms. When he was younger, the preference was for the mushrooms because it has a wider base/grip. Now it's all about Sophie. He also loves the mini Sophie teethers that have Sophie on them but also a ring. Admittedly, these are my favorite because they smell yummy (like vanilla). I guess if $ were an issue, I'd say Sophie is obviously not a "must have" child item, but all in all DS has really enjoyed all of his versions of her.
