Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Having a meltdown =(

I really don't know what to do. LO was sick all week with a fever then she got diareaha starting Wed. The fever is gone as of this morning. Still having 3-4 diareahas. I can handle all of that just fine, but all she does is cry all day and all night. Dr. says its a virus and there is nothing that can be done. I haven't slept more the 1 hour at a time in 6 days. Even when I hold her she screams. I have tried everything I can think of to make her feel better but nothing is working.

I am sitting her crying my eyes out, while she is laying in her crib crying hers out.

Re: Having a meltdown =(

  • That sounds terrible.  I am so sorry.  DD was sick for a day and was super fussy and it was hard.  I cant imagine 6.  Have you given her tylenol to see if that makes her feel better?

Maybe you can get a family member to come watch her so you can get a break?

GL to you!  Just think this too will pass (easier said than done)!

  • Poor thing.  Even with a virus, that doesn't sound right.  6 days?  Maybe you should get a 2nd opinion.  I hope things get better soon Sad.

  • I'm sorry =(

Is there a family member or friend you can call to come over?

    Hang in there. Hugs.

  • I am so sorry for both of you! Is there anyone that lives close that can help out? What about your SO? If you are at your breaking point do not feel bad putting her in her crib to catch a breather. Have you tried any Tylenol in case she is in pain?

  • Hang in there.  I know you said you have tried everything, what about Gripe Water???  Just in case.  I hope she feels better soon!

That was my first thought as well to get a second opinion. Op if in your gut you think it might or could be something else don't feel bad taking her in again to be seen by someone else!

That sounds rough. I would take her in again. That seems long for a virus. Where's your SO? Can you call someone over?

  • Is she congested? I am asking because Matthew was sick this week too. He was having constant blowouts and I called the pedi. She said that baies swallow the phlegm, it upsets thier tummy and usually causes the excessive poop. We were told to give him tylenol & motrin as well as use the humidifer with the liquid vapor. She also said it was ok to use a little vicks vapor rub on his chest. It helped a ton! As soon as I gave him tylenol, rubbed a tiny amount of vicks on his chest and turned on the humidifer her passed out.

I hope both of you feel better soon

  • She could be really dehydrated from all of that. I would take her to the ER or something to get checked out if you have good insurance and it won't cost a lot.  That doesn't seem right at all! How long has it been since the appt?
  • I have done Tylenol, Teething tablets, mylicon, grib water, teether, a bath, outside time, walking, bouncing and nothing is working.

I have had 2 diffrent dr. look at her both said the same thing. I saw 1 on Wed. he said virus and to return on Fri if not better. Went back friday and saw a diffrent dr. and she said the same thing. She told us no BM for 24 hours just pedilight, which we did. But then I thought she was crying because she was hungry but she won't eat more then 2-3 oz at a time. I am thinking of feeding her by syringe just to get some food in her.

  • Yep, we just did this too. Simon had it for about a week and then I got it. :( anyway, my ped told us to give him probiotics and we used triple paste to clear up his rash- from the diarrhea. The probiotics have helped a lot but I found that most of Simon's screaming was from his tush hurting.

  • We have no isurance so I am at the mercy of the free clinic, which has been wonderful to us.  DD does his best to help with DD but he works so I don't get much help from him. Everyone that we have avaliable to us here works or goes to school, so I really have no support.

I just want my happy, go lucky baby back. This is breaking my heart that I can't make it better.

You should really try the probiotics- Simon was back to his normal self in about a day. Mostly.

Is it a medicine? Is it in the baby section? I am willing to try anything.

  • No BM for 24 hours? I think that is odd. I have seen other bumpies say they were told to give pedialyte but never as a complete replacement of breastmilk or formula.

We were told that it is ok to give both tylenol and motrin. I was skeptical at first and asked another couple of pedi's. They all said it was ok. Will she sleep in the car seat?

I don't think it's medicine, per se. It's like, healthy stuff like in yogurt. Ours is a powder I mix into his formula, I got it at Walgreens but I bet you could get it at any pharmacy. I hope you can get it and it works for you! Fair warning- it's not cheap. It was $30 for a 30 day box and that was the cheapest I could find in my desperation. I was literally you three days ago.

  • Does she fall asleep in the car? Maybe strap her in and go for a ride. Sorry, that's is all I got. Poor mama and baby. I hope she feels better soon.

I agree. That seems strange. I would imagine BM would be most beneficial for fighting the virus.

Agreed with SB about probiotics. They can't hurt.

D just got over a week long cold and we ran the vaporizer at night, rubbed baby vics on her and gave her tylenol twice a day (morning and night).

I hope you baby gets some relief soon and you get some rest! It's so hard when they are sick.

When S was really sick our ped said pedialyte and formula, just small amounts every half hour or so. He would vomit up the formula though, so he was on pretty much straight pedialyte.

I agree. I can't ever imagine BM hurting the situation especially when they need those antibodies. Make sure she doesn't get dehydrated! I would definitely try a syringe. Also probiotics is the healthy bacteria in your body and sometimes when we get sick it gets thrown off whack and needs help ( from my understanding) I have used it for treating thrush and would just mix it with a little bm and let him eat it off my finger in a paste form.

  • I know I'm late to this post, and I hope she's feeling better today, but I wanted to let you know we went through something similar at 4.5 months. LO was running a fever, had diarrhea for over a week, and was just plain screaming in pain abd when she wasn't, she was totally listless. My pedi advised us to being her to the pediactric ER by day three because all cultures they did in office came back negative. They did strep culture, urinary culture, poop culture, etc and found nothing. At the children's hospital, where she stayed for 5 days, they did a million more tests - checked hands and feet for hair twirled around them, dyed eyes and examines her corneas for scratches, sonogramed her abdomen, x-rayed her, did a spinal tap to rule out meningitis, they even swabbed her spit up, poop and pee!!! It was amazing! And it turned out she had ento(sp?)virus (like rotovirus) and there was nothing for us to do but let it run it's course. She had all kinds of crazy symptoms toward the end too from jerkybody movements to a drooping eye and in no way, shape or for fifths doctor suggest doing ANYTHING than nursing. Ever. Pedialyte is crap nutritionally abd your babyNEEDS your BM!!! 2-3 oz ata time is very normal for a sick baby, especially one that is having tummy troubles.

moral?? Feel better, I hope baby feels better and KEEP NURSING!!!!!
