NKY Chiropractor recs...

Joe is in severe back pain. He went to the doctor on Monday and recieved some anti-immflamtory drugs and muscle relaxers. It's not getting any better. The pain is in his upper back.

The muscle relaxers are too strong for him and make him really loopy. He can't use them for work.

Anyway, he was thinking about trying a chiropractor. It's covered under our insurance so he thought it might help.

So, I need a recommendation on who he should see in NKY. Would prefer someone in Boone or Kenton county.

Also, do you think a chiropractor will help or should he go back to the doctor for futher testing?

Re: NKY Chiropractor recs...

  • I definitley think a chiropractor would help.  Our whole family gets adjusted weekly, and while I haven't had severe back problems, I can vouch for how much it has helped during pregnancy and with my hip/foot problem.  There are so many other reasons to get adjusted other than just back problems, but if this something he's dealing with, a chiropractor will definitely help.  That being said, we go all the way over to Beechmont to see our chiropractor, so I can't help with a NKY rec.

  • I think a chiropractor might help.  I get pretty bad migraines from when I was pushed into a pool 10 years ago and my head and neck hit the concrete shifting my cervical vertebrae out of alignment.  I go 1-2 per month to get adjusted and it really lessens the amount of migraines that I get.

I see Dr. Hogue from Hogue Chiropractic.  He's in Edgewood off Barnwood Drive off of Turkeyfoot.  When I started seeing him several years ago he did a full back xray to determine areas that may need adjusting.

  • I've also seen 2 other chiropractors.  I don't remember the name of 1 of them, but stopped seeing him because of insurance reasons, but I also had a consult with Dr. King.  I do not recommend him.  He totally gave me the creeps and I never went back.
  • I am completely against chiropractors. I would definately call the doctor on monday.

From my experience, it seems once you see a chiropractor, things get worse, and you have to keep going back (and could aggervate the condition). Its an endless cycle vs with a medical doctor that take care of the problem.

  • My problem with chiropractors is that some of them put you in alignment and send you out the door.  Without proper strengthening and stretching exercises your spine will come back out of alignment causing you to have to return continuously to be re-adjusted.  If you want to go the chiropractor route, find one that also works with a physical therapist.  You are adjusted and then you see the PT to learn exercises to keep you in alignment.  They are also exercises you would be able to do on your own.  My personal bias is to send him to an ortho for proper diagnostic testing to get to the root of the problem and then go from there.  But that's just my humble opinion.  :-)
