Hi girls-
So I have noticed that LO is doing at least some spitting up after every feeding. I feel bad for the little guy. It seems to happen whether we give him formula or breastmilk. I have tried sitting him upright for 30 minutes after feeding burping, then re-burping him, but then as soon as I put him down, he spits up. Any thoughts?
Going to the Pedi on Monday so will definitely run this by them, just looking for any suggestions in the meantime.
TIA!
Re: Spit up after each feeding?
I am in the same boat. One technique I am trying (based on the nurse at my pedi's office's recommendation) is to let her nurse for one minute, stop and burp her, and then start again. Apparently, a lot of people have a large amount of milk come out at first. So, burping the baby right away should help to get out any air from gulping down the initial amount of milk.
We are going to the pedi on Monday as well. I am hoping to get more advice then.
Hope that helps!
This happened to us as well. Your baby is young and has a very immature digestive system which may explain some of the spitting up. How many oz are you feeding with the bottle. When she was 3 weeks old our pedi nurse recommended that we reduce her from 2.5 oz to 2.0 oz when she had a BM bottle with more frequent feedings and that we hold her upright for 30 minutes after each feeding. The amount of spit up has decreased now that she's 7 weeks old, she barely spits up with bottles. However, when nursing, a lot more comes up and that's because she's definitely getting more from the boob than the bottle.
HTH; GL!
I'm going to make an AWESOME big brother.
