My DD stopped growing

My DD has stopped growing. She hasn't grown in legnth in several months and is barely gaining weight. She has always been really tiny (3-5% for weight and 25%for height). The last few months she has completely fallen off the charts for both. She is doing very well developmentally so I know she is getting enough nutrients for brain development- she is just not growing. She has her 9 month appointment on Thursday and her pedi said if she hadn't grown by then she will refer her to specialists. She wants to do a scope on her. She has had a number of minor health problems (colitis, chronic constipation, reflux, eczema, plagiocephaly, brachycephaly, tortocolis). The reason I am writing this is because I want to go into the appointment ready with questionsfor the pedi before they run more tests on her. She has already had lots of blood work (thyroid, allergy screening, others I am forgetting the names) and I hate putting her through that. I hope someone on this board can offer some at. Thanks.

I just want to wish u luck. One of my DDs is very small (3% or below) and her growth has been very slow. She eats very well. Her gross motor skills are delayed but I'm not sure if that has to do with it. I have her 2 year checkup in a few weeks. The dr mentioned sending her to an endocrinologist if she doesnt show significant growth. Let us know how everything turns out!

My DD was like this.  She was IUGR and SFGA at birth and at 9 mo.  instead of catching up like they thought she would, she was FTT until almost 2 (she was barely 20 pounds at 2).  She weighed 13 p 6 oz at 9 months.  Have they referred you to endocrin?  That should be your first stop for growth if she is eating.  DD was tested or everything from growth harmone to Cystic fibrosis to malabsorbtion to diabetes.  She is 4 and finally "on the chart".  Nothing was wrong with her.  My son is the same way.  He now gets Boost Plus instead of milk like other kids.  It has 360 cal to 8 oz instead of 150 like milk.

I am not sure what other questions you could ask. I would at least get a listof all the things she has already been tested for just for your own records.

I agree with the PP that you may be sent to a pedi endo for more detailed metabolic testing. She may also send you to a geneticist for a micro-array (chromosome test) to check for any syndromes that may have slow growth as a marker. Good Luck and keep us posted.

We see an endocrinologist for this in November.  It took 4 months to get an appointment, so if your insurance allows you to see specialists without approval, I would just make an appt now.

I have also been told it is likely they will want a stool sample so instead of having to come back to the Dr. with a bag of poop I am going to bring it with me when we go.

My DS actually grew fine as a baby, but as a toddler he has not grown well.  So that is why we will be seeing the endo.

What about Celliac Disease?  One of my DH's nephews stopped growing and when this was finally dx, and they changed his diet he started growing again.  My DS was tested for this at birth but I don't know if this is standard practice or not.

My youngest (1 yr) was just referred by his pediatrician today to the endocrinologist.  He is falling off the charts with height & weight.  But he eats & drinks like a champ. Otherwise developmentally he seems just right.

Sorry, I have no advice.. just in similar shoes.  A little torn up about this too.

This is what I was going to say. DS stopped growing when we switched to solids. Turns out he has Celiac. It's a simple blood test, so ask your dr to run it when he or she runs the other labwork.
