Little boys and mohawks

Would you ever shave the sides of their hair so they have a mohawk.  I think styling one is cute but I'm not sure I would ever shave the sides of my little boy's head (if I ever have one) so they can have an actual mohawk.  My coworker did this to his 8 year old and I just dont think it looks right.  Of course I like men/boys to have short hair (DH actually has no hair) so maybe it's just something that I am weird about.

  • NO, it is totally NMS. BUT, I do like the Faux Mohawks.

  • My first son Sebastian had a Mohawk for his first haircut. I didn't shave the sides totally, buzzed them to like a 2, then styled the top. I love Mohawks on little boys. (Little like before school age) lol

  • I'm particular when it comes to hair.  DH has long hair and I can't imagine him with it short or in a mohawk.  Now on little boys old enough to style it on their own, eh, if they want it and it's not against any rules at school, then I'd be ok with it.

  • If he wants it like that. Chances are my kids will be unconventional considering me and H are covered in tattoos. Though I won't push it on him if he wants to dress preppy I will let him it's whatever he likes style wise as long as it's not like curse words and offensive.

  • I think mohawks are cute, I don't know if I'd shave the sides...I'd probably do more of a "fauxhawk" deal.
  • I would (and prob at some point try) a fauxhawk of DS, but I wouldn't shave the sides of his head. That's just NMS.
  • Once he's "school-aged"  I'd probably allow it in the summer months, but during the school year he won't be rockin' the true mohawk (this is assuming he ever gets hair!!).  I'm a teacher and whether it's right or not, I see how teachers react to kids with mohawks- there is a stigma associated with it at our school.

  • I personally hate when people do this, especially to little kids. I know someone who did this to their 18 mo old and I found it pretty tasteless...while I don't love it for an 8 year old I can see how the boy may have begged for it.

  • I can not wait to give DS a little mohawk...shaved and all.  As soon as I found out I was pregnant I wanted a boy because I loooove mohawks on little boys.

  • My brother has given his son (6 y.o) a mohawk a couple times. He only has it for a short time before they just buzz the whole thing, but it has looked pretty awesome. He's taking him to a Mighty Bostones show soon and they're going to give him a mohawk for that and dye it plaid. I think it's great. He also has plaid boots and is getting a plaid suit made.

  • My Dh gives my DD mohawks after her bath. Well the fauxhawk thing as a joke. She doesn't have enough hair to put into any pony tails or to cut.

I am with the pp. I personally think mohawks on little boys make them look like punk/bratty kids (school age) but it's not my kid so I don't care what others do.

  • i do hair and a little boy did an inverted mohawk and it was so cute! it was short on the sides like half an inch and nothing down the middle. its funky and i'm prob gonna do both for my son. you only live once :)

  • I'm sure we'll do the fauxhawk thing... probably not shave it though. We'll see when he's older and if *he* wants it.

Last year the school I taught at had a crazy hair day... so many little boys came in with shaved mohawks or half shaved heads, it was crazy! Then the next day the entire head was shaved. I thought that was fun of the parents to let them do what they wanted for the day, knowing they'd cut it all right after.
