All is well with the babies...cervix is still closed and high and 50% effaced. I had a BPP and they failed the breathing on their own test. I have to go tomorrow to triage for another u/s and if i pass that then we are go home. If i fail then i could be having my csect tomorrow. Has this happened to anyone?????? Does this have to do with how mature their lungs are? I'm afraid to google. Thanks!!
Re: 37 wk appt & failed breathing test
Try not to stress- it was explained to me as one of 5 benchmarks used to determine how "happy" a baby is, and whether or not fetal distress is setting in. By the baby not practicing breathing, it can indicate that the baby is conserving energy in utero due to deteriorating conditions. In other words, the baby may be better out than in at that point.
You've made it to 37 weeks, you've done amazing. I failed my BPP due to twin A not breathing and also low amniotic fluid at 35w2d. They did a c/s that night. My girls did have some NICU time as feeders and growers, but never needed any oxygen or breathing assistance. So don't stress that the lack of practice breathing being an indicator for how they'll do on the outside.
You're almost there! You can do this!
FWIW, I never had a BPP with mine, just a couple NSTs where they measured babies' heart rates and my BP for a couple hours.
I delivered at 37w exactly and the babies were perfectly healthy. They did spend a couple days in the 'special care nursery' because they were grunting when they first came out. There were some minor feeding issues due to this grunting (I'm not sure what the grunting signified). Anyway, DD was discharged with me and DS spent one extra day. GL!
SAME thing happened to me with both babies....
I was induced last Friday, had two beautiful, healthy babies on Sunday (37w4d), and we all came home on Tuesday. Nothing to worry about!
