I'm going to try cloth diapers in the next week or so and have just a couple things I'm not sure about. For the cloth diapers moms:
1. What do you do with the dirty diapers? A bag or bucket with a lid? Do you let them sit in some sort of solution?
2. I'm using SoftBums and the package says to wash with a detergent like Purex Free and Clear. I have the Costco Kirkland Free and Clear detergent, do you think that is ok to use?
3. Do you need to change a cd as soon as you can tell it's wet? This may seem like silly question, but I don't always realize a sposie is wet until he has really soaked it and want to know if I need to be checking him more frequently with cloth.
Thanks!
Re: Cloth diaper questions
1. When we are out I put them in a wet bag. At home they go in a pail. We have a stainless steel pail with a lid. Lots of people like lid free cans. We do not have a liner but you can get a pail liner to put them in.
2. I don't know about those detergents. I use All Free & Clear HE and I have never had a problem.
3. If a CD gets full it will leak. When DS was a nb I had to change him every 2 hours or he would leak. Now I can go longer but I usually just change when he gets up, before nap, after nap, around dinner time and before bed or when he poos.
1. I use a trash can w/ a lid and a pail liner; no solution, and a wet bag when we're out
2. I use regular powder Tide, I would think Kirkland would be okay but haven't tried it myself
3. I'd say you can go about 2 hours or so (or I can anyway my DD is 4 months), when she was smaller she'd poop so often it didn't matter
1. I just bought a cheap pail with a lid at Target and bought some PUL at Joann's and sewed my own diaper pail liner with elastic at the top. Super easy and a lot cheaper than the liners they sell online. ETA: we use wet bags when we are out.
2. I did tons of research on detergent and finally settled on Tide original powder for HE. I've been using it for over 5 months and haven't had any issues. I've heard it's best to stay away from the "free and clear". I can't remember why- build up issues?
Here's a good detergent source- https://www.abbyslane.com/faqs.php
3. I change about every 2-4 hours unless there is a poop. We use cd with microfiber so dd can't feel when she's wet.

1. We use a regular bathroom garbage can without a liner at home and rinse it with bleach when we do laundry. We use wet bags when we are out and about.
2. We use bioclean detergent--it smells like grapefruit and I really like how clean it gets his diapers and clothes. They sell it at Peapods.
3. We change him every two hours or so or when he poops when he is in a prefolds and we use fuzzibunz at night and he will wear those for 8+ hours at a time.
The wet bags are usually smaller and only hold about 3-4 diapers. They're similar to the diaper pail liner in that they are made of PUL but usually have a zipper closure. I wash about every 2 days so I could have over 20 diapers to wash and our diaper pail is usually over half full. I forgot to post above we have a wet bag by our changing table that attaches to the changing table leg and is about 12x18 size. We usually put the pee diapers in there for the day and empty it into our diaper pail in the laudry room at the end of the day.

We use Fuzzibunz Diapers!
1) I hang an Aldi bag on the back of her bedroom door. I separate the insert and the diaper and put them in the bag. We rinse out poopy diapers first before throwing them in the bag.
2) I wash every night with Charlie's Soap. I would never suggest a free and clear as it will ruin your diapers over time. I suppose if you buy pre-folds it really doesn't matter as they are cheaper. I wash the first wash on a "hevy stain" cycle with pre-wash and extra-rinse and then once that is complete I do a "speed-cycle" on cold with no detergent.
3) I change my little one when she wakes up and them right after I feed her a bottle as she usually pees. General rule every 2 hours seems to work.
One last thing I am not sure if you are aware that some ointments can also ruin your cloth diapers. So if little one has a diaper rash and is using ointments you might want to switch to disposables just for the time being or lay down a waterproof pad and let your little one sleep without a diaper to allow more air flow and change more often. Mom has 6 kids and mother in-law raised 10 kids. Both are proud to say their kids never had a diaper rash with cloth diapers.
Also, here is a link for cloth diapering care. Check it out as it answers most of your questions and also tells you how to care for diapers that have build-up or leak. Good Luck!

1. We have a planetwise hanging wet bag that we keep in the bathroom for when we spray off diapers (you won't need this until you start solids though) and then we have a regular Target trash can with a lid and a Blueberry pail liner (no solution added) in our laundry room for non-poopy diapers.
2. Not sure about Costco free and clear. This website is helpful for detergent Q's: https://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com/detergentchoices.htm
3. We just change DD about every 2 hours unless she's pooped and this seems to work out well.
