Teething voodoo...

So I interviewed this girl today who told me that she hung an egg (hard boiled I think) from the frame of her baby's bedroom door and her daughter never had any problems with teething pain, gas, colic or sleeping through the night. Has anyone else heard this? Am I a total b**ch for thinking this girl might have a screw loose?

  • Thats great. So what happens if you hang bacon and hashbrowns too?

  • I'm wondering how long the hard boiled egg lasted - did it ever start to smell? Did they ever have to replace the egg with a new hard boiled egg? What would happen if someone tall accidentally walked into the egg and cracked it? Is it still there?
  • she thought she had gas because she couldn't smell it over the rotting egg....sounds a little nutty to me

She said her daughter is now 10 years old, same egg the whole time, she never had the terrible twos or any other behavioral problems growing up, and she attributes it completely to the egg. She also said that you can shake the egg now and it's hollow, so I'm guessing it's still there. Ick.

  • Sounds like hoodoo to me....which = screw loose in my book. But, I am superstitious enough to urge you not to tell her that.

  • I've read of doing something similar in some Spanish boards. Is she Latino by any chance? Because we are full of superstitions.

  • No, she is African American, but that's interesting. I mean, I know different cultures have some very different customs and I find them all intriguing. I just thought this one was a little far-fetched.
  • I like the girl on 0-3 mo. who has actually heard of this.  It's really funny.  Don't think I would hang it in the doorway, but after having a really colicky baby, I bet I would have tried rubbing the hard boiled egg all over him.  (Laughing as I say this!)  I tried anything anyone told me to try.  Oh, this is comical.  I hope none of us are desperate enough to do this once our LO arrives!
