Toddlers: 24 Months+

LO's in toddler bed--rocker/glider still in room??

Paige is about 22 months and we *may* be transitioning to the toddler bed here shortly. Thinking about thoroughly baby proofing her room--do you still have the rocker/glider in there?? I worry about her climbing up on it and standing?? I'm going to remove the foot glider for sure, but waht about the chair part? We still read every night.

Any other babyproofing suggestions would be great! Thanks.

  • if we were converting his crib to a toddler bed then I would probably be keeping the glider in his room a bit longer, but we are going straight to a twin since we need the crib. He actually seems to go down better in a regualr bed then his crib.

Yeah we will just be converting the crib to the toddler bed.

  • My DS is now in a full-size bed and we still have the glider in there. He prefers to get his bedtime books read in it. We haven't had any issues with him standing on it. I expect we'll leave it in there for awhile longer.

  • We took it out a few months after we moved to a toddler bed.  I needed room for her toy box.  She could climb up on it before then though.

  • Yeah i'm not ready to transition yet, but she jumped out the other day so it's time for a change soon....

  • We took it out, we did a twin bed and now we just sit on the bed to read stories. I was pretty paranoid and I REALLY baby proofed. As it is, he never gets out of bed when he wakes up, so we probably could have left it.
  • Connor's is still in his room.  We haven't had any problems so far :fingers crossed:

  • We still have the glider in his room. We still use it at bedtime for reading books and snuggling, and when we first transitioned to the toddler bed DS wanted me to sit in it while he fell asleep. I dont find that DS stands on it, but sometimes I find him sitting in it reading a book. .

  • We moved my DD just about a year ago. Her glider and ottoman are still in her room and she has never hurt herself on them. About 6 months after the switch we found her a few nights curled up in there with a book and we moved her back to bed then the next night we told her she had to stay in bed and not in the chair. We have had no problems.

Out big babyproofing was having to put drawer locks on her dresser because she opened the drawers and climbed on top of her dresser. She also tried to put her hamper against the dresser to climb up. We had to put the hamper in the closet.

  • I have a regular wooden rocker in DD's room. I didn't move it, but only because I dont really have anywhere else to put it. lol

FWIW she did great with the transition, and never bothered with the rocking chair until recently (but she's ok climbing on and off of it, and never tries to stand on it).

I did a few things prior to switching her bed to ready both of us. I put a gate in her doorway, put a nightlight in her room, and started closing her closet door. I haven't done anything else and she doesn't really bother with many things.
