Medication calls for an empty stomach

So my drs office called the other day and I have a UTI. Im not really surprised, I suffer from recurrent ones and get them frequently. I was a little irritated that I gave the urine sample on the 18th and it took them until the 28th to call me about it, but anyways they game me an antiobiotic, no big deal. EXCEPT that Im supposed to take the antibiotic (ampicillan) on an empty stomach. Having an empty stomach makes me so sick! Ugghh, Im wondering how important it really is...

    Call your dr- I have a med that says "take on empty stomach" but it's only because it can't be absorbed when you have iron or calcium with it, so I can eat certain things before/while taking it.

     I would ask, my hunch is, that it's important to treat but not sure.  I would also ask about taking a probiotic while your on the antibiotic.  I'm sure you've taken plenty of antibiotics and have been fine but antibiotics usually mess me up and can cause a subsequent infection like BV or yeast due to the meds killing of the good bacterial along with the bad.  Add in the fact that your pregnant, your more prone to infections.

    I have to take my thyroid meds on an empty stomach (an hour before I eat). Maybe you could take it first thing when you wake up or set your alarm a little early so you can go back to sleep and not think about an empty stomach....

    Yep, I'm hypothyroid, and I have to take my meds every morning on an empty stomach too. It does suck, but it's very good advice to wake up 30 minutes early (set alarm), take the pill without getting out of bed (keep water with you) and just rest until you have to start your day. Then, eat a few crackers before even getting out of bed. I've been able to keep the meds down this way most of the time. It's rough, though! Good luck!
