Ok so a friend of mine has a 3yo DD and is 36 wks pregnant with a DS and they are through having kids after he is born. They brought over 3 HUGE rubbermaid totes full of different things for us since we are having a girl and they won't need girly things any longer.
Here is my problem, I know their hearts were in the right place, but the condition of these things were unreal! 90% of the clothes were ruined either with stains or ripped. There were two shopping sacks full of shoes but every pair (I don't think little babies need shoes anyway but whatever) was chewed up by their dog. One was even still wet. Gross. And one tote was her breastpump and supplies. With MOLDY milk in it!!!! She never cleaned it from her last use!!! And DD is 3! And all of the bottles she gave me, she cut the nipples to make the holes bigger. Last I checked, that was unsafe.
Like I said, I am not trying to sound ungrateful because I know they were just trying to help, but instead of pawning off your daughter's junk to someone else, just throw it out! Especially in THAT condition. DH didn't believe me it was that bad until he got home from work and I had to show him. Thanks for listening. Vent over! Have a good Friday!
Re: Friend vent...not to sound ungrateful but GEEZ!
I second this... yuck.
Yuck!!
The ONLY thing I can say in her defense is that some stains from formula don't show up for awhile. Meaning that the yellowing can happen over time so she might have put clothes away thinking they were stain-free and 3 years later there are yellow-ish stains. My DD is only 15 months and I recently went through all of her baby clothes (we are having a boy and this is probably our last baby). I was VERY picky about throwing away torn, overly worn, and stained clothes prior to storing them but there were still several items that had yellow-tinged seams (especially around the neck).
The pump thing is DISGUSTING. Honestly, if someone has that kind of habits I would just throw the whole pump away. The only pumps that you can really truly "share" are hospital grade. Pumps like Medela PIS are not a closed system and they are not sterile and should be for a single user. There are people I would probably share a pump with (my sister, SILs, some very close friends) but not if they don't even bother to clean before storing it. And why is she giving you her pump if she is 36 weeks pregnant??? That is odd.
I have gotten quite a few hand-me-downs from friends. Most of them have been VERY picky about what they have given me. But there have been a few items that are a little too worn for my taste and I have just simply thrown them away. No point in it sitting in the closet and taking up space when I know he'll never wear it. If I were you I would do the same thing. Maybe throw everything in the wash with some oxyclean and see what happens. When it comes out of the dryer just go over it carefully and throw away the stuff you don't want.
This exactly!!
So gross, you definitely don't sound ungrateful!
This, I thought maybe there would be entertainment this morning, but that "friend" is pawning her trash off on your so she doesn't have to deal with it.
Eeewww!!
Are you going to tell her thanks but no thanks or just throw it all on the curb?
She brought it over yesterday and I went through it then and thank goodness today is trash day! I just set the totes next to my trash bin at the end of my driveway!
