Babies: 9 - 12 Months

NBR: Home Cleaning Service

So I'm about to get a promotion.  I expect that I'll have to do a lot more work from home during off hours, but at least I get a big raise.  I'm thinking about hiring a home cleaning service because I know I'll get even more behind on housework.  And I figure a cleaner house might be better for baby.

I was thinking to have them thoroughly clean the living room (about 12x15), kitchen (10 x12), and bathroom (5x8) about once a month.  And yes, we have dogs and I hate to dust.

Anyone else doing this?  Any idea what the going rates are?

Re: NBR: Home Cleaning Service

  • We have two women that come in and clean our house, it is their own business (not through a service). We have a two-bedroom, two and a half bath townhouse and they do everything including changing and washing the bedsheets, but do not do our laundry. They come every two weeks and we pay $70 each time.

  • I suspect it will be more expensive in your area, but I pay $80 (each visit) to have my entire main level (about 3000 sq/ft) cleaned every other week.

Best money I have ever spent!

  • omg, worth every penny. I use one woman, not a service that was recommended by word of mouth. she cleans my 3br 1.5 bath house (about 1800 sq ft) every two weeks for 80 bucks each time. this is the philadelphia area, so i suspect your rates may be a tad higher.
  • We live in D.C. metro as well (NoVA) and for the 1x/month cleaning of our home the rate is $110.
  • I used to have one that was $110 per visit - & then they stole my anxiety meds & denied it.  So I fired them.

I tried a different company that was $90 per visit - but they only cleaned with water & they broke things ever visit.  So I fired them.

& now I do my housework myself.  I LOVED my first group until they stole from me - I loved coming home to a clean house & it was so worth it.

  • We have ours cleaned every other week and it's awesome.  Totally worth the $$$.  We pay $75 a cleaning for 1300 sq ft (3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, kitchen, living room)

  • We use a service and 2 ladies come to clean every Friday. They clean ~2000 sq ft of our town home and it's $85/visit. Best money we ever spent.

  • It really varies by your location- we have a lady (not a service) she cleans my entire house (about 3000 square feet) every other week for $90.

I did price out a service and they were much higher, so I would ask around- most people will give you a referral of someone they know- you can get a much better deal that way.

  • I used to do it for a (good) living and on my own, my rate was $15-20 an hour (always with a cut off time depending on size of home) in the NYC metro area. My hourly rate depended on how often I did it, and how well I knew the people.  I now live upstate NY and would charge less here. I wish I could have someone do mine now!  Because I was careful about not breaking things and a bit OCD I always put a cut off time depending on how many bathrooms and how big the kitchen ( they take the longest!). I cleaned a house that 5 FDNY firefighters lived in, three bathrooms, hallways, three living rooms & a big galley kitchen were $120.00.
