3rd Trimester

another stupid what do contractions feel like question

I had such a weird night last night. Every time I woke up, I started feeling cramping. But it was low, like menstrual cramps, and it felt like it was just in one area. Almost like someone had their finger on just one spot, like they were poking me there and applying pressure. It was more intense than the normal every day cramping I feel, so it was a little miniscule feeling of pain, but nothing I had to breathe through and nothing that made me think OUCH, make it stop. I started to notice it would last a little bit and was coming and going. I was like, what is this, a gas pain (although it didn't feel like it) or contractions? Every time I'd think maybe I should time it and note a pattern, I'd fall asleep. Then I'd wake up to that poking feeling again. This morning, absolutely nothing. So then I'm left to wonder, did I dream the whole thing? LOL. I don't think I did.

Anyway, you think those were contractions? I never felt my stomach getting hard. It was all just very low cramping. Obviously, I'll keep an eye on it today, and I have a doc appointment Tuesday, but I'm just curious what someone else would think that has actually felt contractions.  I never felt them with DD and the not knowing drives me nuts.  Thanks for humoring me.  :)

Re: another stupid what do contractions feel like question

  • My whole stomach gets really tight and as the contractions get stronger I also feel the low cramping and tighening in my back.  I'm at the hospital on pictocin :)

  • That's definitely not what my contractions have felt like. I've gotten a lot of the low menstrual-type cramps too. Usually a true contraction does not stay in one place. It will wrap around your body. And they HURT like a biitch.

  • What you're describing sounds like it could be your pelvic bone spreading.  I get a lot of pain from that, it does feel a little similar to contractions, but it's definitely not the same.

  • Hmmm, I was starting to feel some reassurance, thinking, ahh, that's what it feels like (yeah, I'm weird), but seems I still don't know.  LOL.

  • I don't feel real labor in my back at all-it's all in front and it is severe menstrual cramping-like benty-over in pain-cramping. Cannot talk or anything. Some women have back labor but I do not. So it may just be up front for you too. Everyone is different.
  • When I had contractions with my 1st they felt like bad menstrual cramps and felt like I had to poop really, really bad. lol
  • BH contractions just feel like an uncomfortable tightening of the uterus.  Labor contractions feel like hell has risen up around you and your entire body is trying to rip itself in half and you would pretty much rather die than have another one.

LOL.  I never felt anything with DD, just the low very dull menstrual like cramps.  I'm sure people think I'm a moron since I already have a kid and don't know.  I honestly never felt a thing until the very end with DD.

Not neccessarily true. With DS I didn't feel a single contraction until my labor stalled for about an hour and they put me on pitocin. I was having real contractions I just only felt the tightening. I was at 7 cms when my labor stalled and my contractions were coming every 2 minutes and were off the charts with an internal contraction monitor. My doctor even told me some women just don't have painful contractions. If my water hadn't broken I would have probably had my baby at home last time.

Yup, mine were not painful with DD at all.  Not only not painful, but I didn't feel them.  My DH and the nurses had to show me the monitor to show that I was even having them.  Once my water broke, I about had a panic attack thinking, ok for sure NOW I'm gonna start being in pain.  My nurse was awesome, picked up on my extreme anxiety and offered an epidural.  I said yeah.  I didn't get it til 2 hours later, still not feeling anything.  I felt pain in my ribs at the end of pushing with DD and that was it.

  • My contractions were mainly in the front and would sometimes go to my back as they started to subside.

I was sure it was BH again but I timed them anyway and when I had a longer stretch, I laid down and my water broke.

Like pp, if my water hadn't broken at home I would have been sure it was false labor again.

Yes I've heard of these women who don't have painful labor contractions.  Three words:  I hate you. :)  haha just kidding of course!

I just hope it happens the same this time though this time I am more afraid about having my baby at home since I just moved to BFE.
