Bad to cancel a party for tomorrow?

I am so stressed I feel like exploding.  We have Jack's birthday party planned for tomorrow. Outside under a tent at our MIL's back yard.

The forecast is cloudy, 55 and 20 mph winds.  If that is the case the tent will not stay up which means it will be freezing for people.

My MIL says to have it in her house, but I am not having 65 people running around in her house.

I am to the point where I  just want to cancel.

Re: Bad to cancel a party for tomorrow?

  • If I were you I would help clean out your MIL garage and have it there or just have it in her house.

At this point and with 65 people I would not cancel..

  • I don't necessarily think it's bad, but I do think you would regret it.  People will read the forecast and dress accordingly.  And if the party has to move inside the house, so be it!  It's hard to not stress, but I think it will turn out just fine.

I know it would be rude to cancel, but I just am so stressed.  It is only a few hours.

  • Don't cancel...it may be 70 with no wind tomorrow...you never know.
  • I agree - I really don't think you should cancel. People have made plans and will be there, and certainly worse things have happened than a little rain and wind. If you HAVE to be in MIL's house, so be it. And forecasts are often wrong, it might be totally nice during the party.

I know it's hard, but you have to try to relax!

  • awww don't cancel. Take a DEEP BREATH and BREATHE! it's going to be OK!! People are used to the weather and will dress appropriately, you'll see!! I'd much rather attend an outdoor party with 55 degrees than 80 and sunny and I'm certain I'm not alone. Can you maybe make sure you've got some hot beverages to serve and allow people to mingle inside if need be? I mean, still have the party outside for the most part, but maybe set up a couple chairs inside too?

Don't cancel! Who knows if they'll be able to come another day. It'll be FINE!!
