2nd Trimester

Update: Low amniotic fluid

Saw the specialist today and he did not see ANY fluid around the baby. He said it was very difficult to tell, there could be some behind the baby but was not confident. He said most cases do not turn out well. At this point, we just sit and wait. I go back in three weeks. Just wanted to update for those who responded to my first post.

Re: Update: Low amniotic fluid

  • Oh no, I'm so sorry! Are you drinking enough fluids (I'm sure you are), do they know the cause? You will be in my T&P.

  • Sorry, that was a very vague post. He was not able to determine a cause. He could not see a kidney but could see a bladder with urine, so he didn't think it was kidney failure (just thought he could not see very well, there being no fluid for the ultrasound to be clear.) He did say that if we lost the baby he would want to do an autopsy...he also said that this would not affect a future pregnancy so...

Sorry to be so informational. Just a little numb...this was just so unexpected. We thought we were going in to see what we were having on Wednesday and we would register this weekend. That all seems sorta trivial now.

  • I'm so sorry you're going through this!  T&P to you, baby and DH!

  • I'm so sorry to hear this. I know what your going through. I have low amniotic fluid as well and have had 5 ultra sounds so far to monitor it. I have another in 3 weeks. It's so stressful. I don't think I can possible drink any more water a day then I already do and I'm afraid it's not going to help. The Dr. said I am ok because they don't see a leak but it's still too low to not watch.

I really hope everything is ok. I read online that they can inject you with fluid once a week at the hospital until you get to a safe week to deliver. I hope your Dr. discussed this with you.

No, actually he didn't. I'm so afraid that we're at a point of no return. I've heard stories from other women with low fluid, not none. We were just at the Dr. for our big ultrasound at 18 weeks...and tech didn't stay on my belly for long though b/c she said she couldn't see well...which makes me wonder if it was low at that point...and if so, why didn't someone say something then? I can't think that way though, that it could have been prevented. I really do believe that God has a plan for our baby. I keep going back and forth with how I feel...hopeless one minute and then thinking about miracles the next. I am trying to balance being realistic with...I don't really know what to call it...but you know what I mean I'm sure. I guess it doesn't really matter and I should just stop speculating, b/c what will be, will be...just SO much easier said than done. I really appreciate everyone's responses though, it's good to get it out.
