What were you told or what did you hear about excise after giving birth? Do I wait till my 6 week check up with my midwife?

Re: exercise?!

  • I think everyone is different, but I felt really good right away. By 3 weeks I was back into the gym. I'll add that it wasn't an intense work out, just something to get my heart rate up. I think it also depends if you're nursing or not.

  • I'm starting to feel great and asked my DH to start training me. He's a huge work out freak. But he is starting me out slow till I get the okay from my doctor.

  • I think every person is different and it also depends on how active you were during pregnancy.

I'm just now have gotten serious about working out and my LO is 2.5 months.. but that's ony cuz i've been lazy.  I could have started 2 months ago.. I just didn't want to.  But I was very active during pregnancy.

It's up to you and how ready you feel.

  • It's totally individual. I did nothing at all for 6 weeks as I had an emergency c-section and followed by a pretty serious bleed at 6 days pp. I struggled to walk to the end of the road and back at 4 weeks! But by 7 I felt amazing.

If you feel up to it, go for a short walk.See how you feel and go from there. Increase gently and remember that if you do exercise one day, the next you'll need to tone it down a bit as there's a longer recovery time.

I'm not one for exercising as such but I've been walking in and out of town, about 6 miles, with DS in the Moby a few times a week since about 8 weeks pp.

When I was in hospital the physio gave me a booklet about PP exercises to do to get my core strong again. Highly recommend looking up something similar, so worth doing.
