Babies: 3 - 6 Months

phantom baby?

Ok, so I've read posts about people feeling phantom kicks, but how about a phantom baby. This happened more when LO was a newborn and I held her all.the.time. But, it's happening again - maybe lack of sleep or her separation issues so I'm holding her more?

Anyway, I wake up in the middle of the night (or maybe I'm still mostly asleep) and I think that I had her in bed with me or something (which is weird b/c she's never slept in our bed). I panic and pull back the blanket etc and look for her for a few seconds before I snap out of it. The other night, I realized what I was doing when I was leaning over off the bed and feeling around on the dog bed!

I really think, for those few seconds, that I can't find her and that she's buried under blankets or something...makes me feel CRAZY!

  • I'm sorry, I just laughed out loud at your description of what you do when you wake up!! But I can totally relate. I definitely do that!

  • I used to do that all the time when Jayden was a newborn. It would freak me out. I actually woke DH up one night freaking out because I couldn't find the baby. Creepy.

  • I totally do this too!  Scary eh?
  • I did that a ton when Fiona was first born, and have started doing it again.  It freaks me out so much.  I frantically search all over the bed for her under pillows, etc.  She also has never slept in our bed and is always safe in her crib.  I developed a little mantra for myself when she was in our room in the cradle, "She can't be in two places at once."  It sounds silly, but it helped me and reminded me to look in the cradle before freaking out.

  • DH and I both did this the first two months after the babies were born.  Sometimes I would even think that my pillow was one of our babies and that I was laying on them.  Scary!  And our babies have never slept in bed with us either.
