Has anyone read the article in the new TIME magazine titled "How the first nine months shape the rest of your life"? I thought it was really neat - it is all about new scientific studies that claim what happens to a fetus in utero can affect everything from incidence of cancer, to intelligence, to metabolism and appetite (regardless of other factors, such as genetics). It seems like fairly new science, and it doesn't go into too much detail about the studies, but I found some of the facts really crazy. For example, women who are pregnant during historical period of stress or famine are more likely to have children that develop schizophrenia.
Just thought it might be something you ladies would be interested in and wondering if anyone else read it!
Re: TIME magazine article
It's called Epigenetics.
The Dr. Oz book - You Having a Baby talks about it to no end.
It's fascinating.

I'll have to pick up that book! In the article they called the field "fetal origins".
I read it.
It just stressed me out even more

That's fair. I am already stressed out, so more information can't possibly make it worse. Ha ha.
I've been reading this discussion on Slate.com about fetal origins these week: https://www.slate.com/id/2268673/entry/2268674/
One of the writers is the author of a new book called Origins, which I'm interested in checking out. She seems pretty upbeat, so hopefully the book isn't like, "Here's all the things you're doing that'll probably mess up your unborn child"
ETA: clicky link
Thanks! I just downloaded it to my Kindle. Now I know what I will be doing tonight. I am way to obsessive compulsive for this board!
I keep debating whether I should pick up some pregnancy-related books at the library this week. I decided not to do it before I test this weekend so I won't jinx the hpt.
I already read some books on natural childbirth before we were even TTC, so I guess I already jumped way ahead in my reading. Never hurts to plan ahead!
I downloaded that issue onto my Kindle just for that article. It was interesting! I am torn between being stressed and hopeful. It is nice to know that my decisions during pregnancy can positively affect the rest of my unborn child's life. But also stressful to know that my decisions can potentially negatively affect the rest of his/her life.
Either way, definitely fascinating!
