I went to L&D this morning in a lot of pain, I found out I was having contractions. The Nurse checked me and my cervix was closed. Anyone having contractions with a closed cervix?
I have had contractions that have been really ineffective. However most of these contractions came about because I was dehydrated. But I've always had hydration issues.
I was in L&D for 3 hours last night with contractions but I didn't dilate anymore than I had been. I'm not closed, but I'm just a fingertip. I've been "stuck" @ a fingertip for a few weeks, so hopefully that will change before too long!

There's a big difference between reading a book and hearing something could happen and actually have it happen to you. It's kind of unsettling when you're actually experiencing it. According to the books I've read, a million thousand things could go wrong with this pregnancy. But hearing people's personal experiences is much more comforting than knowing my baby has a medical chance of being stillborn if I'm not feeling movement in the same way I was at 33 weeks, even if it usually is normal.
You can be educated on a subject all you like, but it's pretty much bull unless you feel like you know someone who has actually gone through it.
So yeah, you can read a book, but it probably won't help you feel better in the way that hearing other people's experiences will. Some people respond better to personal stories than bland medical facts. If you could actually see other people's points of view, you'd LEARN stuff like that.
We're talking about contracting without progressing...not something you need personal experience with or someone else to have gone through to fully understand. But OK Rochella, OK!
you tend to efface before you dialate in a 1st preg. i had contractions for a week w/ ds before he was born. i also go to the hospital around 3cm w/ contractions 3 min apart for over an hour. w/in 30 min i was at 8cm.
I was in L&D this past weekend for the same thing. I was having allot of contractions most with out cramping. My cervix is also closed. Once it got to 3 in 15 mins they hooked me up Magnesium Sulfate and I also got the injection to mature the lungs should they arrive early. They told me that the contractions will continue and to time them, if I get 4 in one hour I need to go back. In the mean time I am supposed to continue with bed rest, she wants the weight off of my cervix. This is all new to me too.. I am going to be a first time mom. It can be very scary when something like this happens and very overwhelming because something you may be feeling could be caused by a number of things so not knowing is even harder. Even trying to determine what is normal and what is not. That is why I feel it is so important to call the doctor with any question/concerns and just listen to your gut..

Yes...if you count the fact that mine is sewn shut (w/a cerclage). This baby is wanting OUT and keeps punching down there and OUCH it hurts! I get it removed on Tuesday and I am not sure how long he will be able to stay in there.
Re: Contractions and closed cervix...
Oh yeah I have been having tons of contractions for the last couple weeks, and my cervix is complety closed.
I would not really consider them to be painful, or at least nothing like actual labor contractions.
