Baby dropping?

For the past two days, I haven't felt LO kicking my ribs.  Instead, I feel him much lower.  My trips to the restroom have greatly increased, and my heartburn seems to have gone away (yay!).  I thought nothing of it, as pregnancy has been doing all kinds of things to my body.  Today at work I mentioned I had a minor pain in my lower back, and my co-worker exclaimed, "the baby dropped!"

I googled the symptoms (because that's soooo accurate), and it certainly seems possible.  However, I'm not nearly far along enough, am I?  I go to the doctor on Tuesday and will ask, but of course I had to ask the Bump Ladies :)

Re: Baby dropping?

  • it's possible that baby found a new place to snuggle and that happens to be lower in the womb....  but if i recall correctly the baby/your stomach won't look like it's really dropped until the last few weeks of pregnancy.   At least that's what my mom and MIL tell me and i'm carrying really low already.

  • He might have just switched positions in there...they get cozy in all sorts of weird spots, don't they?

I would guess he hasn't dropped yet though, it's way too early for that I think.  They aren't even worried about breech babies until like 36 weeks because they have plenty of time and room to move.

  • Does seem a little early. I have felt baby more in the lower part of my belly this whole pregnancy. Just where he/she has been.
  • I did get a weekly update email from thebump and it said baby would start to drop in the next couple weeks. So I think it's possible!

  • Im sure anything is possible. Im actually questioning it myself these days and ur a week ahead of me! I feel the baby down in uterus area and peeing as become a more reoccuring annoyance lately. That and she seems to be hitting me in the hip area lately with her hands! Ouch! And breathing is becoming easier, however its not totally 100% yet (stairs are still a pain in the u know what, breathing wise). I went to the drs. last week and he said she is WAY down there, so maybe shes just getting ready to drop but hasnt yet, no so sure. All i know is that i keep feeling rolling and occasional kicks and hiccups down near my uterus...feels so wierd! Anyone else getting this at 30 weeks??
  • Last week my mw commented that my LO is way down, too and I've been feeling a lot of pressure/pain on my cervix as well as having to pee a lot more again. I'm hoping he's just temporarily down there, but he hasn't changed in a week.

  • I think it is possible.  I know that the elective u/s place I have a package with suggest the latest that I do my last appointment is around 32 weeks because of the potential for the baby dropping and preventing them from getting good face shots.

For me, LO has been head down the entire pregnancy and seems to like to stretch out so I get his head causing me back and cervix pain and tiny little painful kicks to my ribs...

  • It's possible. At my last OB appt I was told the baby has started to drop.

  • I would say it is possible that the baby dropped.  However, maybe it just is head down now and the switch of positions changed your symptoms.  When I was pregnant with my son he dropped at 33 weeks and was born at 36-1/2 weeks.  My other 3 pregnancies did not drop until 35-38 weeks. I can tell I am going to the bathroom a lot more now that the baby is head down.  Once this baby drops I know I will have a lot more pressure down below - sometimes to the point of it being annoying.  Definitely see what your doctor says - if your baby already dropped you might be having him early.
