Ergo or Babyhawk???

I love my Moby and use it all the time but I'm looking for another carrier. Which do you prefer and feel to make other suggestions!

DD is almost 15 lbs already. I'm a petite mama and only 5'2". I would like something that can grow with her. We use it mostly for walks, grocery, and shopping! Thanks!!!

Re: Ergo or Babyhawk???

  • I have both and like them both.  The only thing that makes me reach for the Ergo more than my Babyhawk is the buckle straps.  It's easier for me to put on and doesn't require adjusting.  Sometimes I need to readjust the Babyhawk.  Also - this may sound trivial - I really like the pocket on my Ergo.  I didn't have one added to the Babyhawk.  It's nice to have my phone, camera, keys, etc. right there.  HTH!

  • Is there anywhere that you can try carriers on? I ordered an Ergo and wound up sending it back because it just didn't feel comfy... With that said, I'm just not really a buckle carrier person... I feel like a get a better fit with wraps, etc

I really like my babyhawk. I used it for every grocery trip up until about 2 weeks ago when she decided she hated it. I haven't tried since then because she's been sick so we haven't gone out much.  HTH!

  • I'm a shortie too.  DH has an Ergo and I have a Babyhawk and a Beco.  Of all three, the Beco is my favorite.  The straps on the Ergo are bulkier than the Babyhawk or the Beco.  When I was researching carriers, I read that the Beco was a better choice for a petite mother and that's my experience.

The difference between the Babyhawk and the Beco is the kind of straps.  and the internal harness.  Do you feel more comfortable with buckles or ties?  Personally as my LO got bigger, I felt more comfortable with buckles.  Also buckles were easier to work with than tying straps in my experience.

ETA that the little pocket on the Ergo is very convenient.  The Beco would be perfect for me if it had a pocket.

  • I thought I really wanted an Ergo...until I tried on both.  The Babyhawk was so much more comfortable to me.  I have used it almost every day since I got it eight months ago.

I'm not sure which I prefer. I've only used the Moby but I can see how buckles will feel more secure as she gets bigger. Can you use any of them forward facing? DD loves to see around! Thanks for your feedback!!

  • First, forward facing carries aren't recommended in general because babies can get overstimulated because they can't bury their face in your chest.

There is a new Beco that allows for forward facing carries.  I've never seen it in person but I think that it doesn't have the internal harness that the Butterfly 2 has.  I like the internal harness because it gave me more confidence for backcarries although I'm not sure if it really made the Beco safer.

I don't think you're supposed to do forward facing carries with the Babyhawk but I have seen them done.  You would need to cinch the bottom.

You're not supposed to do forward facing carries on the Ergo.

Thank you! That's what I love about my Moby- so easy to just switch you around. I've been looking through Beco every since you recommended it. :)

I have been calling around to specialty baby shops and can't find anyone who carries them!

  • I use a Babyhawk, and DH uses an Ergo.  I'm short too (5'1"), and the BH is really comfortable for me.  The Ergo seems long for my frame, and the BH comes in pretty fabrics.  :)
