I just saw THE most annoying effin' commercial

"I'm 40 pounds thinner! Yup these USED to be my pants!  And now I'm down to a size 8 again!  How did I do it? I didn't starve myself and I didn't go on a fad diet! So what helped me get back to my target weight?  I breastfed my bay-by!" as she dances around with what looks to be a one year-old.

OK b*tch, I breastfed BOTH of my babies (exclusively), one for a year and the other I am still breastfeeding--and I am still 35 lbs overweight from being a size 6 pre-pregnancy. So  F--- YOU!!!  Sorry, I'm a little sensitive.

How about we just stick to all the wonderful things that b.f.'ing does for the bay-by, WIC? (who sponsors the ad, is that the same WIC that gives free cow's milk and formula?)  Or, if you'd like to talk about what it does for mommy, how about "I'm sleep deprived, my breasts look like whoopee cushions (take your pick, inflated or deflated), my nipples are sore, I spend half my waking hours (all 20 of them) pumping and every five minutes someone is telling me to just give up and formula feed.  How did this become my life?  I breastfed my baby!

OK, I think I'm done now.

I don't see it that way at all - funny how differently people perceive things.

  • Lol - seems WIC is trying to use the vanity of women to get out of paying for pricey formula.

  • I hear ya.  BF'ing has done NOTHING for me weight-wise.  I am still hanging on to that baby weight.  And I'm starving all the time which doesn't help.

Hang in there!  My DD has never gotten sick, knock on wood, so I know it is helping w/ her immunity.

  • That could've been me after my first. ;) I got SO skinny from BFing, I loved it.

Not this time, though -- sheesh! I've lost the baby weight (but I'm running, too) but nothing extra is coming off at all. Now I'm hoping that once I wean, I'll be able to get past that roadblock.

That seems like kind of a risky thing to peg as a reason to BF, when it varies so much from woman to woman and from pregnancy to pregnancy.

And yeah, I doubt my hips will ever be a 6 again even if the scale gets into what used to be size-6 territory for me. :P

p.s. It's nice to see you. I was thinking about you the other day, that you haven't been on much lately!

Exactly.  Next time I'll have to see if they put the same disclaimer the diet companies do "Results not typical" LOL  Although I actually think they are.  I'm the atypical one b.f.ing full time and not losing. Sad  I think this is my issue. There are about a hundred reasons to b.f. that have to do with both the health of the mom and the baby, but they choose that one?

Most commercials reflect the advertiser's view of the target audience, so hmmm....women who are pregnant/have small children who can't afford adequate food and nutrition on their own are actually more concerned about how they look in a bikini...uh, yeah.  "Hey ladies, forget all those silly HEALTH benefits, breastfeed to look hot!"  I'm mostly offended, and only slightly...partially...bummed I'm not hot. Sad
