DS's Surgeon is on Jury Duty!!!

My DS is supposed to have his 2nd jaw surgery this October.  His surgeon is one of a handful in the country that do this (jaw distraction).  He got called into federal jury duty and they wouldn't let him off!  So now I have to wait until the trial is over!  His schedule for surgeries for October was booked before this.  I won't let anyone else do it because he's the expert.  DS will only be 4 months this October and I wouldn't trust anyone else.  Doctors should be exempt.  Just needed to vent.  Thanks

Re: DS's Surgeon is on Jury Duty!!!

  • What?!?! Jury duty-- not expert testifying? Testifying I could see. But that is ridiculous. Come on. I can get out of it because I care for my child, and he who is booked months in advance to do important surgeries cannot? That does not add up.

  • ugh, that is so annoying. Unfortunately, like auntie said, I don't think there's much you can do. :/
  • I was on a jury with the head doctor at a major hospital.  I could not believe they would not let him off.  We had to serve for over 2 weeks.  It was a mess.  One girl almost lost her apartment,  We took up a collection for her.  She was young, 19 and worked as a home health aide, so was not paid the whole time.  After 10 days of making $25 a day and having to pay $8 to park, she was completely tapped out.  It was really sad what a burden is put on some jurors.  I hope he only has to serve a short time.  I was in grad school and had to borrow money from my parents because I lost the job I had lined up for Christmas break, since I would have only been able to work for 1/2 the time I had a contract for.

I would not have minded, if all 4 defendants had not already signed confessions and they did not have so much evidence and they were not all using public defenders.  The criminals had nothing to lose, so they dragged the trial on and on, when it was clear from the first day they were guilty.
