garlic for yeast infection?

Has anyone ever tried this? In the past, monistat hasn't been very effective for me. I was recently talking to a friend and she said she uses a clove of fresh garlic at night for one night and the infection is cleared. thoughts?

  • There's no way on Earth you'll catch me sticking food up my hoo, particularly if the hoo is already infected.  If Monistat doesn't work, I think a trip to the gyn is in order.

  • um, no thanks.  But I have read that vinegar helps and for me it totally does!  Take a bath with vinegar in it.  it is SO soothing. I totally expected it to burn, but it really was soothing.

  • I am the weirdo on the board who has in fact stuck garlic up my hoo. I followed a midwife based treatment to keep myself gbs negative through the end of my last pregnancy (our hospitals policies on gbs is extremely archaic and was a huge source of stress following my delivery of ds). I have heard of using it to treat yeast but have no first hand experience but I'll tell you this - I have heard that when treating yeast it can burn. Definitely something to think about. You also really should run a thread through it because there's nothing like freaking out over possibly lost garlic. Not a conversation that I would want to have with my ob.

I think the more common alternative treatment for yeast is plain yogurt frozen and inserted. I've heard that it supposedly sort of absorbs and leaves no mess behind but I'm not sure I'd want to test that theory myself.
