DS and I fell asleep together in my bed last night and my SO I guess didn't want to wake us up when he came to bed so he just climbed in with us. I seriously think that's the best night's sleep I've had since my first trimester. I think we may start doing this regularly. If we're going to continue this though, do we need to get a co-sleeper thing to go in our bed or can we do without? We just have a queen size bed and so far I've just laid him down next to me with my body pillow between him and the edge of the bed. I'm a pretty light sleeper so I wake up if he even starts breathing differently. I feel like we'd be ok just moving pillows and blankets out of the way but figured I'd ge opinions from you ladies first.

Re: As much as I said I wouldn't bedshare..
I'd suggest bedrails instead of a body pillow. Or you could side car the crib to your bed.
Glad you got some good rest.
I know I am not average here but we actually don't have anything on the side. She sleeps below my pillow and I usually have my arm above her (so she doesn't move upwards under the pillow). That said our bed is very low on the ground and our floor is carpeted so if she did roll off she would not hurt herself very much. And when she starts rolling over we will probably transition her to her crib or only sleep with her between us.
I know co-sleepers are something different but did you see the warnings about the positioners that were on the boards yesterday? I would not use a co-sleeper, because of this.
As I have said before, in Sweden (where I spent the summer) they actually recommend bed-sharing from about 2 weeks. It is easier on the mother for night feeds. And their SIDS rate is 1/3 of the rate in the US.

I would defintely agree with the PP and get a bedrail instead of using a body pillow.
