i just completed my birthworks international doula training workshop, so now i am a (provisionally) certified doula! i have two births to attend, books to read, and lots of interviews and journaling, then i'll be completely certified!
i have started a website/blog for my business, and would love to have birth stories of all kinds to share with mamas-to-be. if you'd be willing to share yours, i'd soooo appreciate it!
Re: shameless plug & a request
Congrats on your certification! I'd share my story but it's all a bit fuzzy at the moment, amnesia has set in (and thankgod or else we wouldn't ever try for another)
Maybe after getting a refresher from Hubs and my "personal nurse" Hub's sis, I can share!
Congratulations, that's amazing! I loved my doula and still keep in touch with her. I pretty much have her on the same pedestal as my high school teacher who encouraged me to pursue my life's dreams and ambitions.
I *think* my birth story is in my bio on the bump. If you need more details than that, respond in this post and I'll check back.
Congratulations! I LOVED my doula and have considered pursuing that in the future as well.
My birth story is super-long... (I think about 8 pages double-spaced) because I mainly wrote it for myself. Do you want the whole thing or do you want me to cut it down a bit? Just let me know
whatever you'd like to share! long is fine!
you can email it to mamastrength at gmail dot com
7river, a friend of mine just had a homebirth, and her doula came from 6 hours away!
i'm planning on attending a birth in omaha at the end of january, and i'm starting to worry that it's a bad idea to leave finn - i'm hoping he'll take a bottle/sippy by that time!!
That's so exciting! I wonder if I could find someone to let me attend their birth -- they wouldn't even have to pay me... I just want to go. Does that make me strange
The boy knows what he like
I'm sure he'll be OK by then.
When you travel that far, will you go out when she gets close to her date or will you just wait for the call and leave ASAP? I'd be so nervous I'd miss it.
YES!! It's the birth of Psalm and Zoya. We watched it at my doula workshop this morning, and it's AMAZING. I was bawling. The mama is sooooo calm and confident, it was awesome hearing her say, "What is that? It's a foot. We've got a footling. It's okay. It's okay, baby, we're going to be just fine."
Those babies were 7 and 8 pounds EACH!! That mama was alllll belly too. Her partner was/is a gourmet chef and fed her soooo well throughout her pregnancy.
They used to sell their video, and allowed Discovery to use it for a show about unassisted births, but Discovery totally twisted it around and the entire show was about all these 'crazy' women giving birth at home unassisted and how dangerous it was. So the parents stopped selling their DVDs. So sad.
But, if anyone has the chance to watch "Psalm & Zoya", jump on it! It's awesome.
oh, yeah...different story!
pm'd ya back.
google 'psalm and zoya' to see other people's responses to the video - i wish it was still available!
