  I hadn't heard of them before we found her at a shelter, either! We did a lot of research and they are supposed to be super loyal to their families and very smart. Our dog is both, and she absolutely LOVES little kids. She understands that they are small and she gets really calm and cuddly with them.

  Only drawback is that she was made to hunt, so if you are on a walk and see a squirrel, it takes like 10 mins to calm her down.
  

  Overall she is an absolutely wonderful dog. I love my lab pup as well, but if we get another dog someday, it will be at least part catahoula. Hehe if you can't tell, I am really a dog person!!

  Good to know.  I felt really bad for my friend because she had a border collie that they had to get rid of because he kept snapping at her 4 kids.  She gets really attached to her dogs so it's reassuring to hear that she got a good breed.  I may keep them in mind for our next dog as well (if I can convince my husband we need three dogs).

  Aw that's so sad! I hope she has better luck with this one! One of the dog trainers in the company we use has a male catahoula, and he is also wonderful with their 2 little kids. And hope you get your 3rd pup too
