Amber being investigated for assault? Finally?

From my guilty pleasure, Perezhilton.com:

*** is out of control!

On Tuesday's episode of Teen Mom, Indiana natives and teenage parents Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley were caught on film in a vicious argument that ended with Amber ruthlessly beating on her baby daddy, right in front of their baby! She hit him, she kicked him and to top it all off, she punched him in the face! Gary never physically reciprocated, just stood there and took his beating like a man.

The pre-taped incident was so severe that the police are now looking into the family and investigating a possible assault charge. The police reportedly got two anonymous e-mails urging authorities to look into the incident.

Ah, MTV has started to get clever, we see! Nice touch, alerting the police like that!

Look forward to this future special episode of Teen Mom, where MTV will follow Amber as she gets tossed in jail!

  • Thank goodness! I watched that episode last night and literally cried over poor Leah being stuck in the middle of all that mess :(

  • I was REALLY impressed with Gary.  He stayed so calm and he was making so much sense.  I detest fighting but I'm not sure after she kept hitting me I could have restrained from hitting her back.  I don't know what happened for him, but it was like something finally clicked that this wasn't healthy and it wasn't healthy for his baby.  I'm glad he took Leah, I'm glad he left.
  • Yes

I wish he would have called the Police on her when the incident took place. She is out of control. Poor Leah to be subjected to that type of environment. I hope something gets done.

  • I don't watch the show, but she needs to be arrested for domestic violence just as anyone else would be.  Even more so since it was caught on tape.  What a psycho.

    This.

    Effing crazy people.
  • In an EW article, MTV mentioned that they do get involved with certain things, it just does not always end up on camera b/c they want the attention to remain on the girls, not their camera crews.  I find that funny, b/c the crews getting involved makes for better ratings IMO.

    This.

This as well. He needs to take that baby until she can get some help. I don't think he will though. If you go to MTV.com and watch the after episode interview with them, he is kind of defending her. She says she didn't know how it got that bad and she feels sorry for it,  and he is saying "I hate watching this with her (Amber) and seeing how upset it makes her."

it's easier said than done. I don't think Gary is the best parent either, but I know why he hasn't called. The first time it happens you think it's just an isolated incident. People sometimes get carried away, right? The second time you start to think, "Oh hellz no. No one is treating me this way. " So you try and "fix" it. That doesn't work, but by the third or fourth time you're too ashamed to come forward for fear of people saying "Why didn't you say something sooner?" (And, as a man, I'm sure it's worse for him.) Plus, you really do care for the other person. As twisted as it sounds, you can't help it. Had my best friend not called the cops on my ex one night he would have eventually killed me. I'm ashamed to say I don't think I ever would have done it myself. I was too proud and I felt like a failure. I'm glad the police are getting involved. Poor little Leah. Sad
This is a test. This is only a test.

  • It is about time. I was very surprised the crew and MTV didn't step in or doing anything. I thought if you wittnessed a crime it was against the law not to report it. Or does it just depend on the crime?

Either way...I'm glad. She can defend herslef all she wants and say he started it and place the blame on him (as per normal) but the fact of the matter is it was "caught" on tape.

  • That episode should be interesting.

Does anyone know where her family is?

  • Finally.  I really hope they do something for that little girl.  And that crazy chick needs serious help.
  • I'm glad something is being done...but I guess I don't understand what there is to investigate? Shouldn't they just be pressing charges? It's all right there on video. And Gary has no say in the matter.

  • He's my "source" for information too!!

I'm glad they're doing something about it - I watched it last night and my jaw literally hit the floor when that scene came on.  I mean, if Gary had been the one to lay a hand on Amber, that shizz would NOT have been allowed to escalate like it did.  She needs some help, and props to Gary for controlling himself and being calm - I imagine it was no easy feat.

I made C watch it and he was shocked too - that poor little girl, and poor Gary.

Also, why does she keep saying she "has custody" of Leah?  My understanding was that they have no agreement or anything, and that they are co-parenting, so technically Gary has just as much right to Leah as Amber does, right?  I hope she goes to jail or gets treatment and I hope Gary keeps Leah.  Amber never interacts with that poor girl.

  • I hope they investigate the living conditions, too. I feel so sorry for Leah.

My understanding is that you are not required to report a crime or come to someone's aid if you are a witness, but I'm not 100% sure on that.  It's been a long time since criminal law/procedure.

Lord, I'm sorry you had to go through all of that and I'm glad that you got out and are happy now.

  • Hopefully Leah can finally live in a home that's peaceful and loving!  I hope that Amber gets the help she needs.
  • I was waiting for Gary to push that b!tch down the stairs....

  • I was very troubled by that episode. Amber has serious issues. It broke my heart to see how she treated Leah, putting her in the dirty crib, punching Gary in front of Leah, etc. She thinks just because she is the mother she can do whatever she wants with no consequences. It is BS.

I don't know how the film crews were able to watch it. It must be all single men because I personally would have scooped up that child.?

I would also argue that Amber has an elevated sense of self confidence lately. The weigth loss, being on TV has allowed her to feel better about herself, like maybe she's "hot $***" All of the sudden she thinks she's better than Gary.

I 100% agree. I would have taken that baby outside and called CPS. That is such a horrible environment for that poor little girl to be in. I feel like she is socially neglected. I mean it looks like she eats and has clothes but she is never interacted with. It breaks my heart for her. She is precious little girl, I just want to hug her.
