  Mine included both and something else as well I believe, and so did my DD's.

  I heard that Pertussis has been added to the Tetanus shot as of a few years ago.

  Yes, pertussis is given as part of the adult Tdap shot, which includes Diptheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis.  I believe the booster is good for 5-10 years, something like that...so if your in-laws did indeed get the shot, they'll definitely be good for several years to come.

  Yes, this is what H got when he went in a few weeks ago to ask for the pertussis vaccine.

  Yup - there's a triple vaccine called DTaP that includes diptheria, tetanus, and pertussis.  That doesn't mean your MIL/FIL definitely got it... but they definitely could have gotten the pertussis vaccine when they got the tetanus vaccine.

  It depends which vaccine they got.  There is a tetanus-diphtheria shot (Td) and there is a Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis shot (TDAP).  If they only got the Td shot, that would not cover pertussis.

  Like PP's the Tdap contains both pertussis and tetanus. However, did they actaully get the Tdap or just a tetanus booster? That is what you would need to know.

  In our labor and delivery class they said that the only way to get the Pertussis vaccine was through getting the Tetanus shot, that they are together and if you've gotten one in the last couple of years that you were fine.

  Yea it's a combined vaccine. When DH had his physical last year they told him they had given him his Tetanus shot but it was the TDap that he ended up getting so he doesn't need to get it for LO.

  Yes this is true that tetanus is bundled with pertussis, but I heard (REALLY anecdotal, so check with your doc) that thought he tetanus booster lasts for 10 years, pertussis only lasts for two, so they might need another booster. I don't know, though.

  That's possible. There is a Td - tetnus and diphteria booster and a Tdap booster - tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis. Depends on which one they got.
