It is supposed to be raining heavily when I am due to drop ds off. I have to go in and sign him in, the front door is about 10 feet from the parking, and his room is the first room. My issue is that I carry my 1yr old ds in as well, and am hating the idea of dragging him out of the car in the pouring rain for what will be less than minute. I will take him in, but if I can park directly in front, am I terrible to be considering leaving him in the locked car while we run in? I would be able to see the car from inside.
Re: Pre school drop off in the rain wwyd
You take my ovaries, I take your yarns.
Do you have to sign your own child in? My SIL had the same problem--she and her good friend sent their kids to the same preschool and both had younger siblings so they worked out a system. On rainy days, one mom would run both kids inside while the other mom stayed with the babies in two cars.
It may not help today but if you could propose this idea to another student's mom, it might help you out next time.
Is there a way to get someone to ride with you and wait in the car? Or have DH stay behind for a few mins to wait to you get back?
Like you, I would so want to leave the younger children in the car but my guilt and conscience would get to me!
there are several parents with babies in M's preschool. What we do is that a parent without little ones would take the child so the mom can stay in the car with the baby. We make arrangements with the teacher ahead of time so they know that sometimes Mrs.X will be bringing in Mrs. Y's child in case of bad weather.
Yup, I am good. I was not planning to do it, just wanted to be sure I am not being more conservative than needed since it would be easier. I expected to hear no when I posted this, but every once in a while I see a post where I am surprised that parents do certain things that I would not be confortable with so I wanted to see. Thanks!!
People really wouldn't leave the child there for ONE minute/a couple of feet?! That is crazy to me. I regularly leave my kids in the car while I run in the house to get something. That sounds like the same distance/time.
I do it, too.
DS preschool door is on the back of the building, and there's only one way in/out of the lot. I have pulled up to the back door, left DD in the car, run DS in and gone back out. Many of the moms do the same thing, and no one calls CPS on each other.

This is what I was picturing, his room is right inside the door. I am just a nervous nelly about the 'what ifs'.
Yeah, pretty much the same experience/thoughts here too. I'm not going to leave a kid in the car alone while I go get my nails done, but I'll park directly in front and run ds up to the door. I'm literally gone from the vehicle for less than 30 seconds. Most of the time I'd ask another parent doing drop-off to keep an eye on the vehicle for a few seconds, but there have been times when that wasn't possible. How is that any worse than leaving your kid in the car while you pump gas?
All of the preschools and daycare in the area have policies specifically against this. The one my dd went to would use cones to block the front so that no one could just park and run in. They will happily introduce you to other parents in the same situation so that you can hlp eachother out as much as possible.
This, exactly. Only in very bad inclement weather of rain or snow, otherwise I bring her in with me.
Well, then, jlw. You are clearly the superior parent. Good for you.

Yeah, in that situation I wouldn't think of leaving a child in the car either. Ds's school is quite different though: parents are required to walk the children up to the classroom door and drop them off. Parents aren't even allowed in the classroom (with very few exceptions.) From the parking spot to the classroom's door is 25-30 feet at most.
Yep you win parent of the year, I do believe I would notice some stranger wandering the parking lot at the church we go to, not to mention all the parents that are also bringing their kids in, not thinking someone is going to break my window in plain sight with 20 other people around to steal my ford explorer with my toddler in it, but stranger things have happened.
