DH is away for business this week, so I've been lonely and feeling bad for myself a little. My MIL called me at work yesterday and asked if she could come and visit me after I got home. I was a little nervous about this because in the first few years of our marriage, MIL would sometimes visit DH while I was working and have private talks with him, telling him how she's disappointed in us, jealous of my family...all kinds of crazy things that were just meant to stir the pot and turn him against me. In the last 2-3 years things have improved with her, but I still don't completely trust her intentions. So she came to my house at 7:30 last night and proceeded to bring baby gifts- and more- and more! There was so much stuff that it filled my whole dining room table. It was like a shower, but only one gift-giver. I don't even know how to thank her enough. This was all after she had bought us our crib and dresser/changing table and delivered it last week. And she assured me that she has a lot more at home but she just didn't feel like hauling it all last night. Wow! What a surprise! She made my week.
Re: MIL
I probably looked and acted like the most ungrateful beeotch ever. I said something along the lines of "oh, it's a onesie and rattle. For the baby. For my birthday. Thanks."
LOL, I couldn't help it! Then the next day which was my actual birthday she gave me a pair of earrings, but I'm pretty sure I saw her wearing those earrings the previous week!!!!
That was nice of her, and sounds like what you needed. Sounds like the baby is bringing out the best in her. My MIL bought me bags and bags of new maternity clothes from Motherhood last week. I was pretty surprised and really happy. I sent a card yesterday and hope she likes it.
