I know this sounds stupid... and common sensicle... but I've had a lot of boils and never on my back so I thought it was a boil... started as a zit and started growing, more and more pain, more and more redness and tenderness... but usually with boils you have to wait for them to pop and ooze to get some relief... well this one popped last friday and wouldn't ooze... hardly anything came out. Monday, one of the girls saw it at work and said... that doesn't look like the other ones, it looks infected... and was very insistant that I call my doc... I didn't think it was that big of a deal but she was pretty mad at me... well I got to the doc yesterday, he looked at it and said... it's not a boil. Then lectured me about waiting so long to come in. Apparently it is a staph infection, now a pretty serious one.. and here I was being stubborn. SO anyway, I'm on some pretty serious antibiotics n have to go back next tuesday but I think my body finally realized how "infected" I was today cuz I feel horrible and am just waking up at 1pm after going to bed at 11.
So, and this came straight from the doc, be very careful when you are pregnant, any sort of zit or even a hair follicle can be infected like this. We carry both staph and MRSA on our skin and the pregancy makes our immune system deficient, he said this is very common.... but of course people don't wait as long as I did lol. So just a warning. Hope this helps someone else.
Re: If a "zit" starts growing... go to your doctor...(long)
You will know the difference... I would put up a pic of what it looks like so you can see the difference but don't want to scare anyone cuz it's pretty friggin gross... but basically what happened was it looked like a zit... one of those red inflamed ones that doesn't come to a head... and then the area around it got inflamed and it got a little bit bigger and not to be gross but if you touch the inflamed area, you can kinda feel the pus underneath the skin, and then it jsut keeps going, more inflammation, more pus, almost like a boil building. You will know if you have this... the pain is horrible and most people... especially if you haven't had a boil.. would not wait long enough to know whether it is a boil or not cuz it is horrific pain.
I really hope so... cuz in all honesty... I feel like sh*t. It still hurts and I'm so exhausted, crazy headache, and now the skin is peeling around the infection.... calling the doc now and hoping they don't send me to the hospital. I'll keep you guys updated but I feel really stupid now for not having gone earlier.
aww I hope you get to feeling better soon!!
I'm so glad you were able to catch it in time!
Mh's uncle actually died b/c he had a boil that he ignored & the infection got into his bloodstream. Sad & scary!
