my husband got SA test results a few days ago ( count 10 mil, motility 19% and morphology 7%). I also have PCOS. our RE said that IVF is the only option, we are in total denial and want him to re-test in 3 months to make sure that this analysis is correct. Any hope trying without IVF with 19% motility?
Re: need advice
I know the decision to do IVF is huge - I'm so sorry you got this difficult news
I would suggest a few things:
1. Definitely re-test to make sure there was no error. You can also re-test in 3 months (it takes 3 months to generate new sperm) to make sure it wasn't a fluke.
2. See a urologist who specializes in MFI. There may be a hormonal or structural issue that they can treat to improve your husband's SA. Also, many men trying going on some vitamins.
3. If your numbers are around the same as what you posted, I probably would do IVF. You could try an IUI, but his count is also low... the % motile of that count is lower than most RE's say for a cut-off. That said, if doing IVF is too big a leap you could do IUI's. The odds might be lower, but it could happen!
Hope that helps, and all the best to you as you figure out your next steps! Also, we have a MFI check in on Mondays if you'd like to join - just look for the thread and post

thank you. Good luck to you as well!
The PP gave you some good advice. Have they done any other blood work on him?
Also have your DH start taking Fertility Blend for men vitamins from GNC. DH just started taking them after they were recommended by the RE at a fertility seminar we went to.
I'm in the exact same boat as you regarding my husband's sperm and I'm currently debating about IVF. Like the previous post mentioned, I'd meet with a urologist (we already did) and because there can be some minor things that affect the sperm. If he hasn't already been on vitamins and such, have him try that for a few months to increase count. We did this as well and it didn't help him...
From what I understand regarding IUI's, they are more for cervix problems. It sounds like your problem (and mine) is that the sperm can't make it to the egg, so in that case IVF is the best bet.
I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. My DH had an S/A that wasn't so hot (12mil total with 50% motility...can't remember the morphology but it wasn't great). Our RE put him on Conception XR (motility formula) and it seems to be having some benefit (his last count was up to 17mil after just 4 1/2 weeks). We're on a plan right now for 3 IUI's and then see where to go from there...The PPs are right, you may want to consult with a urologist who specializes in MFI to see if there's ANYTHING they can do to help improve the S/A so you can at least try a few IUI's before deciding if IVF is the way to go. Good luck to you!

I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you (i'm still pretty new to the IF world). IVF is our only option due to NOA, and I know the feeling of denial all too well! I just wanted to send T&P's your way. I hope you get some positive results on a second SA!
