My son was never a good sleeper. He co-slept almost every night because he woke so many times when he was on his own. We didn't get a full night of sleep until he was 14 mos old. But then it was fine. Bedtime routine was long, and sometimes he'd cry and fuss and we'd rock him to sleep, or rub his back for a good 10 mins.
Lately he'd been AWESOME. We'd do our routine and after books and cuddle time he would ask to get in his crib! A Christmas Miracle!
But the last two nights have been filled with crying, excuse after excuse about getting up... screaming Mumma hold me! (I always do when he asks, so this is really strange). Any idea why he'd be suddenly upset at bedtime? I had to leave him for a about 10 minutes last night because he just kept screaming while I was trying to soothe him it seriously broke my heart and I had a nightmare that I left him at home while DH and I went to work, and he was devastated... which clearly came from the bedtime madness.
What can I do?
Re: help with sudden sleeping problems 2yr old
Unfortunately, there will always be ups and downs.
My DD who has generally been an awesome sleeper her whole life has had periods of craziness.
The first major one was right before she moved to a twin bed. . . she was really weird and fussy for a week and one morning she said "I want to sleep in a big girl bed" so we took the rail off her crib (to make sure it wasn't a fluke) and all was well. Set up a regular big girl bed that week. She was 28 months.
Most recently (4 years old) she started having nightmares/fear of the dark so we had to put in some extra nightlights and let her sleep with a flashlight for a while.
thank you... that makes me feel better... I guess I got used to the long period of non-issues. I wonder if he'd like converting his crib to a toddler bed (or just taking off the front part) He was yelling, "I sleep in your bed, not in crib." but I figured it was just one of his excuses.
that's the problem. . . we get through all the infant sleeping stuff and our bodies settle into a routine and then they shake it up. Argh!
