Anyone have Paragard (the non-hormone IUD)?

I'm getting it Tuesday and I'm just wanting to know what to expect. I'm getting the Paragard instead of the Mirena because the hormones in birth control pills significantly increase the frequency of my migraines.

Re: Anyone have Paragard (the non-hormone IUD)?

  • I almost got it because I'm BFing and I couldn't have the one with hormones.  They told me it's only 50-60% effective and I decided I'd take my chances with possibly getting pregnant!

Let me know what you think tho!  DH is still wanting me to do it...but I'm just not convinced it's worth my time!

Really only 50-60%? I think my dr's nurse told me today it's more effective than bcp! I need to research it a little more I think because of it is only 50-60% then I'm not doing it!

I'm not sure who "they" are, but according to the Paragard website it's 99% effective, which is more effective than BCP or condoms.  I have a friend that has it and loves it.  I think that's what I'll be getting after #2 because I'll be Bf-ing.
