Those w/2-2.5 year olds: what kind of cup are they using?

DD still uses a sippy for milk, and a Take & Toss cup w/the sippie spout for water and juice.

Every straw cup and spoutless sippy (thermos style) cup that i've tried leaks no matter what I do.

Is there a certain age that you start moving away from a sippy?

  • A straw cup.  The straw will leak if he tips it over though. (GRR).  I figure it's still safer than an open cup rigt now.

  • He uses a regular cup (plastic) for water at mealtimes. Generally, for juice or if we are on the move, he still uses his Nuby straw sippy cup. He doesn't drink milk so that is a non issue.

  • take and toss when we are out, and regular glass at home sometime regular plastic
  • A regular plastic cup for milk with meals and a Nuby straw cup with water when we're on the go or playing outside. He had to start sipping from a real cup when he went into the 18-month old room at daycare.
  • DD has a cup collection that far exceeds what we have for grown ups in the house. She uses regular cups, sippy cups, straw cups - you name it, she's got it!

  • For DC, she takes a straw cup.

For milk before bed and when we're in the car, she gets a sippy.

Otherwise, she uses a regular plastic cup filled about halfway.

  • Mostly he uses the Take n Toss spout cups or straw cups (but with regular straws, not the "spill proof" straws).  I have tried to give him open cups or free-flowing cups and he just makes a mess.

  • She uses a straw cup for water, and a small regular plastic cup for milk and juice. If I give her water in a regular cup she plays in it.
  • Regular plastic cup for all drinks at home (with the exception of her before-bed milk which she takes from a spout sippy) and a take and toss cup when we are out and about.

  • At home, resturant, and DC she uses a regular cup for all drinks. For the car she uses her thermos straw cup because it keeps it colder long and holds a good amount.

  • We're starting to introduce the cups with straws now that he's better about remembering to put his cup on the table when he's not using it, instead of just dropping it on the floor.  Otherwise we use the sippy cup, or a regular glass if an adult is holding it for him.  He gets to practice with a regular cup in the bath.

  • Straw cup during the day and for dinner and on weekends she gets a glass or a cup with her meal.  She will also drink out of a bottle of water too.  She thinks it's really cool to have her own bottle.

  • DS uses the take n toss sippies at DC. and at home we use the regualr sippies for milk and straw cups for water and juice. if I give him a bathroom cup he does drin kout of it so we are going to start working on that at home. He won't move over to another room in daycare for another 9 mos so that gives us plenty of time.

  • Safe Sipper water bottle, Safe Sippy, a stainless steel water bottle from Starbucks, and a Thermos funtainer water bottle (HelloKitty).

She still has a couple of Nuby straw cups and a sippy but doesn't use them as frequently.

  • DS started to use a cup at DC at 22 months.  If I have my way at home he uses a cup or a straw cup.  DH gives in and gives him elmo (sippy) if he is being difficult.
