So, today, DH took DS and DD to the bowling alley, b/c DS has been sick the past few days and couldn't go to school today because he hadn't been fever free over 24 hours (their rule- most people probably don't obey it, but we do). So, DH had DD in the Ergo while he was bowling, when the manager comes up to him and is like "These ladies over there brought to my attention that having your baby on your chest like that could be a hazard if you fell or something. I'm going to have to ask you to take her out of it, or sign a waiver."
Said "ladies" were a group of senior citizens with obviously nothing better to do with their time than get into someone else's business. DH was flabbergasted, and didn't really know what to say, even though he was really mad. He wound up taking DD out and puttine her in her stroller (which, I wish she would have made a giant fuss about and screamed her head off, just to spite!) He said he wishes I'd been there to give them a piece of my mind, and then NIP, just to really annoy the old biddies.
I can only laugh though to think what those ladies would think and say if they saw me tossing DD on my back and wrapping her on my back! I told DH next time I'm off on a Tuesday, we're totally going for their league day and I'm going to wrap her, right in front of all of them, just to get a rise out of them!
Re: Poor DH (BWing bias mentioned)
Isn't that kind of dangerous, though? I don't bowl in a league or anything, but I do go bowling a good bit. It seems pretty physical for carrying your baby on your chest. Maybe that's why the manager said it was a hazard - not that he was carrying her on his chest but that he was bowling while carrying her.
I'm all for carrying my baby around, but I wouldn't do anything physical while they were in a carrier. Especially something that involved bending over like bowling does.
Just my two cents.
I'm not a great bowler or know much about it...but I don't think you actually bend over when bowling.
I don't see anything wrong with him wearing her while bowling. And I totally think you should go there next time & wrap in front of them!!

I probably do because I'm so bad at it! haha
Exactly this!!!!!

I've seen people fall over at bowling alleys. The floors can be pretty slippy.
I'm sure your DH was being careful, because let's face it, we're all careful when we have a baby strapped to our chest. The ladies were being nosey but they probably just felt anxious. I'm not convinced they were out to spite anyone.
I understand how once it was pointed out to the staff member he felt like he couldn't ignore it.
He gave your DH a choice. DH chose to take LO our of carrier and LO was still quite happy.
I see how this is a bit irritating but I don't see it as a huge deal.

I never said it was a huge deal- I actually find the whole situation rather humorous, because we've both worn DD while bowling at this same alley (as well as others) before and no one has batted an eye. It's the nosy old ladies that crack me up the most, and imagining their faces if I were there, doing the same thing... they probably just thought my husband was some stupid man who didn't know any better or something.
As for possibly slipping- frankly, there is the chance of falling while wearing a baby anywhere you go. I've been bowling since childhood, and cannot recall a single time that I have slipped and fallen. Could it happen? Sure. But I could also fall on my butt in a parking lot, walking down some steps, heck, I even managed to break my foot once stepping out my front door. Things happen. That's life. Unless there was something negligent on behalf of the bowling alley that caused me to fall while carrying DD, sueing wouldn't even register on my radar, so the whole liabilty issue, IMO, is a moot point. And even if we did sign a waiver, if they were negligent, it would be their fault. I get that there is a risk in wearing her while I'm bowling- but IMO, the risk isn't large enough to dissuade me from doing it. Some people babywear while riding a bike- IMO, the risk there is much greater, thus, I refrain.
I misread your post. I thought you were saying you wish you'd been there to give them a piece of your mind.

I was, in a way, because of how stupid the whole thing is. But even in the stupidity, I find the humor.
