Infertility

introduction

I felt like it was finally time to introduce myself as I have been lurking on this board for awhile for information.  So here it goes. I am 28 and husband is 30.  I never had regular periods and saw different physician but didn't have a firm diagnosis until about 4 years ago.  Despite not being overweight, having any insulin resistance or abnormal androgen levels, my RE felt that I had pcos.  For years, I figured that it might be hard to get pregnant and so last year we decided to go off birth control pills and start trying on our own knowing that it was not likely to be successfull.  After no period for 7 months we finally decided to try meds.  We went through 3 cycles of escalating doses of femara, none of which got me to ovulate.  In August, we did our first round of Menapur, which I did ovulate, but then got AF. Good news is DH SA is perfect, so at least we aren't dealing with that on top.  Although, I have always known that it was going to be difficult, I had always been hopeful that it would just take a little medication to get me to ovulate and then it wouldn't be a problem, so I had been reluctant to get disappointed when the femara, or truly give into the fact that we really are dealing with infertility and this may be a really long road for us.  This is probably why I hadn't posted previously. But it hit me harder than expected when the last cycle didn't work.

We are starting our second round of Menapur after a month break.  (they had never checked my rubella titer which came back non-immune last month, so had to get MMR and wait a month-so annoying).  I finally decided that I am probably going to need some support if this continues to be a long journey as few people know that we are going through this process. Almost none of my friends are in the baby stage of their life and don't know if I am ready for the questions and comments that would come with our (big) families knowing.

TTC since 6/09 with PCOS No response to femara 4 cycles of injectibles+IUI=BFN IVF#1= started stims on 2/4 Likely ER on 2/16 and hopefully 5dt

Re: introduction

  • Hi, and welcome. I'm fairly new as well and post sporatically due to a busy job (though lately I've been posting more and working less Surprise ). I have PCOS as well and while I'm slightly overweight now, I still had the symptoms and elevated testosterone while at a normal weight. I don't have insulin resistence either, but my RE put me on metfomin to see if it would help.

I also didn't respond to femara and am on my first menopur cycle right now (I just did my second injection yesterday). Hopefully I'll have my first scan on Saturday to see if there is some growth. I have 40+ antral follicles so I have to be careful w/ the menopur b/c my risk of over stim is high (and as such so is HOM).

Everyone here has been so so supportive. They answer all my silly questions, have advice, and hugs whenever needed.

I hope your journey is short, but for now, welcome to the board!

  • Welcome! Your story sounds A LOT like mine! I had known for years TTC was going to be difficult, don't have all the obvious s/s of PCOS but that's my diagnosis  and had no AF/ovulation for 7 months once off BCPs before starting testing/meds. The ladies on this board are great and so supportive! Good luck!
