Trying to Get Pregnant

AZO...does it work?

Does anyone know if AZO really works for a bladder infection?  DH and I went on our baby moon last week and so far I brought back a bladder infection.  DH's goal was to get me a baby not a bladder infection (though he doesn't understand all the ins and outs of how it works even though I try to explain it).  Any idea on ways to combat it other than going to the DR and getting a perscription.

I'm on cycle day 29 so and I think I ovulated around the 15th or 16th based on CM, and OPK's. I tested yesterday because a friend was giving me a hard time about it being my turn to have a baby, it was negative.

Re: AZO...does it work?

  • AZO will help with the pain, but nothing except antibiotics will actually make the infection go away if thats what it is :(  ( i work in a pharmacy)

  • AZO does work wonders to "numb the bladder" and lessen the pain from a bladder infection, but you really do need to see a doctor and get on antibiotics. If you let it go and try to treat it on your own, it could get a lot worse and go to your kidneys. It's definitely not something to mess around with. And antibiotics will not get in the way of TTC.
  • AZO provides symptom relief. It isn't a cure for a UTI. An antibiotic will cure it, but you need a Rx.

  • Yes, AZO works to relieve the pain.  Lay off sugary drinks and stick with water, water ,water.  Also, you can drink cranberry juice or take some cranberry pills. (I personally don't like cranberry juice so the pills were much better.)  This helps me everytime.

<3 AZO though, seriously.  That stuff has saved me from so much discomfort over the years.

Oh, be warned that it will turn your pee fluorescent orange.  Wear a pantiliner!

  • Thanks I guess its off to call the DR.  I just really didn't want to go to the DR because that means missing work and all that.  Mostly lazy because it's a pain in the rear......oh well!

This.  You should also know that antibiotics can often lead to a yeast infection.  It might be worth getting some probiotics to help ward off the YI.

Whoa, seriously??  Just from wearing them while you have AZO in your system?  I have reading glasses, not contacts, so I've never heard of that before.

I've had a kidney infection, trust me not going to the Dr. is NOT worth this risk. It was bad enough that my kidneys basically shut down and i was in the hospital. Sadly, I thought I just had a horrible backache.

For the probiotics, usually eating a container of yogurt a day will keep you good.

  • Going in in an hour to leave a urine sample for them to test then they will call in a Rx for me.

At least they are making it easy since they are always running late on their office visits and I wait for a 1/2 hour.

    Thanks for the advice ladies.

  • I use Cystex from CVS (only place I can find it in town). It doesn't turn everything orange. It does the exact same thing that AZO does. My kidney specialist recommended it...I have chronic kidney stones that lead to infections. It saves me so often!
