NBR vent

I was in a car accident in May.  I won't lie, it was my fault.  I rear ended a car, I will spare you the excuses.  Now 4 months after the fact the woman I hit ( who I talked to about insurance info several times after the accident and said she was ok each time)  Is all of a sudden contacting my insurance company saying that she was injured and needs to receive pain and suffering. 

Why do people do this, why does everyone these days feel the need to make a simple fender bender into a big court case to get every penny they can.  If she is awarded anything, it will come from the insurance company anyways, but still.  When did it become OK to just screw other people to get every last penny you can? 

 

Edit to say: if there were real injuries then I could completely understand it, but that is not the case in this one.  We chatted while we waited for cops etc. to come, and she was fine.  Even the insurance guy I was talking to today about it said that he doesn't think there are any actual damages, and he doesn't think anything will come of this.

    Sorry you have to deal with this. People want to milk the system for all they can even though nothing is wrong.

    Can she even do that?  I was rear ended last year and I was told that even though I thought nothing was wrong with me, I had to get checked within 72 hours of the crash or I would never be able to file a claim.  I went to the ER to get checked so that if something came up later I could file it, but otherwise I wouldn't have had that option.  Weird...

    Sorry you're dealing with this. That's total crap! I doubt she'll actually get anything since the accident was 4 months ago.

    and Brit, that sounds like a good rule to help weed this sort of thing out, Florida should do that (that's where the accident was)

    Something very similar happend to my husband.  He had a horrible accident on base while stationed in California.  The other girl was fine and her car was beat up but not totalled.  DH's truck was totalled and he was taken to the hospital for a bunch of tests.  He ended up ok just a lil' beat up.  The girl in the other car went rock climbing and clubbing the following day since she was given the following day off due to the accident.  Almost 5 months later he got a call from the insurance company that she had filed for damages.  It was a huge pain to settle because the accident was on base.  It was sooo frustrating.  Took over a year before he finally got a call that everything had been closed out and taken care of.
